Upgraded trans cooler for higher stall converter immediately?
Just put a Yank SS3600 in and was wondering if I need to upgrade the cooler right away. Just daily driving and nothing more. Thanks, Colby!

if your RPMs are going to be higher than stock for any sort of extended time, the trans will get hotter.
4l60e does not like heat.
Required? no...
Recommended? highly.
I would put it in ASAP, if you have to drive it, keep the revs really low!

I am located in North Carolina, average temp. here is around 60, and what I mean by upgrade is buying an aftermarket cooler and running it in conjunction with the stock cooler.

The only time ( well allmost only time )you will build extra heat is if you are stalling it up/and or cruiseing arould under the lock up speed, I lock up about 40-42 mph, with a Yank SS 3600 and now with Yank SS 4000 , I have heat problem only when I do a long cruise ( 30-45 min ) at less than 10- 20 mph, I have a temp guage in the pan, 2 exturnal cooler with fans and still run 200-230 at a long cruise
but the sooner the better

I bypassed my radiator cooler and am using a very large stand alone trans cooler. I watch my temps in the trans data stream and would never go without a cooler after seeing how hot the trans can get after a few quick romps with my current setup. Would hate to see what it's doing with just a stock cooler.
So yes, do a cooler and do it now. Heat kills automatics, why risk it?
Fully agree

I have a Hayden RV/Towing cooler, its pretty damn big but it's a tube and fin so it's not the best money can buy but definately better than a small cooler or just the trans cooler..
I have considered going to a stacked plate style.
Maybe some of the other guys can chime in with better info.

The 70264 is a medium sized cooler and will come with all the accs you need to hook it up. The 70274 is bigger and comes with nothing but the cooler. I've run both. I like the bigger one for the heat in the dirty south.
