Default Faster times due to tranny manual shifting?

Last night went to the strip and got 2 runs in. First pass I manually wnt into 1st and as soon as I went wot I moved the selector to 3d, that run netted me a 1.7 60' 12.3@112. I felt the transition from 1st to 2nd sluggish and sort of like no power 'til 3rd kicked in which I assume was the reason why it sucked. Then on the second run I said the hell with it and decided to manually shift all gears, 60 foot was 1.6 thanks to a better burn out, with a 11.6@117. Today I asked the guy that rebuilt the tranny why on 3d it felt like it was slipping and how the car felt so much better manual shifting it, and he said I should only manual shift when racing, to run faster and promote a longer tranny life. Tranny has a shift kit installed from previous owner but dunno if that alone would make her yield better results by manual shifting rather than letting the pcm auto shift... ???

If the transmission made a 1-3 shift that would account for the drastic difference in the times. From your description, it doesn't sound like the shift points are set at the computer correctly? You should address this soon, as a 1-3 shift will wipe out the 3-4 clutch pack in shor order.

thanks, that kinda makes sense. Sometimes I'm driving at 20-30ish in 3d or D and punch it and it doesn't seem to downshift sometimes I don't even feel the kickdown unless I manually select the gear it needs to be in for the speed
