Default Auto trans not shifting above 2nd gear

My 4l60e isnt shifting above second gear, when it comes time to shift from 2nd to 3rd it just revs but when i slow down it goes back into second, i was wondering if it could be a trans speed sensor or trans control silenoid before i decide to replace it???? Anyone got some input??

I think mine does this same thing. if your going down the track you have to burp the gas to get it to shift but it does shift and it takes off in 2nd instead of 1st sometimes.

If after the 2-3 shift it continues to accelerate, but slowly with a lot of slipping, it is a worn out 3-4 clutch. However, if it revs like in neutral with no acceleration at all, it might just be the 2-3 shift solenoid (called Solenoid B). Now, it could be a completely worn out 3-4 clutch, but lets be hopeful.

My guess would be a 3-4 clutch failure. I don't think a 2-3 shift solenoid as if it was stuck on you would just stay in second and if it was stuck off you would never be able to get first.

The infamous 3-4 clutch pack! I bought a used core and my dad (35 year rebuilder) has built it twice and we cant get more then 30 miles out of it! Its got to be a defected unit. that being said were picking up another core =) Good thing pops builds transmissions though. GL with yours man!

You should check the 3rd accumulator check ball in the case, by the servo. If that leaks, your 3-4 clutch will wear out very quickly. Many (most?) failure of the 3-4 clutch within a few miles/months of a rebuild are due to leaks in the 3-4 fluid circuit going to the clutch.
