Default Opinions on 4l80e Converters

I have a stock ly6 swap in the works and I don't want to leave the stock 13" converter in. Anybody have any real word experience with converters in the $500 range for a 500 NA build?

We offer a 278mm HP series converter that falls in your price and horsepower range. They are available in your choice of 2 stall speeds. 26-2800 and 3-3200. It is a very stout converter that performs well and has excellent street manners. In order to run the converter you will need a dished ls flexplate. We offer one for 150 dollars... Definitely need to get rid of the 310mm...

Thanks Brian. Why can't I use the flexplate the ly6 came with? It was from a van & bundled with a stock 4l80e.

The 4l80 flexplate is flat and is a 6 pad design rather than the typical 3 pad ls. You can try and find a factory dished style ls flexplate or opt for the sfi certified one we stock. Most converters for your setup will be the LS 3 pad design. We offer a billet 4l80 6 lug converter in any stall speed you want, but will be outside of the 500 dollar range.

I wasn't trying to spend another $150 for a plate Brian. Do you have an oem part number for the stock part so I can scour the part yards. I want the converter brand new, no prob, but I set the budget at $500 so I could get a few other things for the LY6.

I'm not sure on exact part numbers. Any flexplate behind an ls motor with a 4l60. The truck flexplates seem to have less issues with breakage and are probably more common.

Roger that. Since you build each converter to order, can I get it fairly tight with the 3k stall?

The 278mm 3k stall will be a tighter driving converter than say a 245mm 3k stall due to its larger diameter. It will only flash when you want it and will drive very nice around town.

I would like to order that stall tomorrow. Not sure what gears are in the rear though, is it imperative that I know? Do you guys offer a military discount/incentive?

We do offer a military discount. When you order, tell Chris or Ann and they'll take care of you. Gear is good to know but not a deal breaker. The more gear you have, the better it will drive around town. Good luck with your build, and thanks for your service!
