Default Trans cooler temp switch location

I have a dual pass transmission cooler with a fan mounted under my trunk for my 4l80e in my 72 Nova. (Street car)

Where would be the best place to put the temp switch in the cooling line route?
Pressure side after trans?
Pressure side at cooler?
Return side after cooler?
Return side before trans?

I'd really like to know the science why you're suggesting the location you do.

I will be adding a manual override switch also in case the switch fails.
Also, if you have any suggestions or horror stories on certain thermal switches, feel free to add those as well, I'd like to make sure the switch is reliable and leak free.

Return side after the cooler, because if it's not hot there you don't need the fan to run.

My gauge sender will be in the case port.
Would it be a bad idea to tee off of this port with the sender and the fan temp switch?
Would this deter from getting an accurate reading on both sensors?
I'm thinking if this is where the fan temp switch should go, then it might be just as good to put it at the pressure fitting coming out of the case on the opposite (passenger) side. These two temps should be almost identical.

It should work fine. Most say the pressure port reads a little high but overall shouldn't effect anything by much. Remember the case threads are 1/8 NPS, and most senders and fittings are 1/8 NPT which is a tapered thread. So slightly different and more prone to leaks and such.

Ive run mine in the pressure port on both my 60e and 80e for no other reason than im lazy. I used some Teflon tape around the threads and never had a problem, just don't torque it in there nuclear tight.

Do you mean where the cooling line comes out? Or on the drivers side for the test plug port?
What thermal switch did you use?
