Default 4l80 removing springs from direct and forward hubs?

I'm rebuilding a 04 4l80 with stage 2 kit and d3 brake from jakes with billet input, intermediate, and froward hub. My dad rebuild a few th400s and he said sometimes they removed every 3rd spring on the hubs and I'd never heard of that. I've seen some transgo kits even include stiffer springs for them. So just wondering what people thought about removing any. I didn't plan on attempting this just trying to see if this is something that had any benefits. Thanks

It was an old school trick with flawed logic. Definitely not good to do.

Thanks jake. I have another question for you. I've seen on YouTube where a guy drills out a hole on the front cover of the pump. Is this something you guys do too or is another bad idea? It starts at a little over an hour in the video. 1:05.15 to be exact.

I don't drill the drainback hole on a 4L80E. That's a remnant of what is needed on a 700-R4 and 200. I don't believe it's needed on a 4L80E. I've got seen a couple of instances where they have popped front seals and there was always a cause not related to the front seal.

Your right Jake, I agree and I know of a big name builder that still does it and the units have many clutch related problems because of this idea. "It was an old school trick with flawed logic."
