th400 or 4l80e?
What would some of you recommend for a mostly street driven some times strip turbo car? Currently have a 4l60 and am tired of it burning up. I do drive on highway and sometimes make a 400 mile trip to go to the track. Thanks in advance for any advice to help me make my decision and I am familiar with both trans just lookin for some input from people that have done the swap. Thanks

Also I have done a lot of research for the 80 swap and I know what all it consist of but what's a proven method for the electrical portion of it. I personally have done the 80 swap on 2 silverado and I did the electrical portion different on each one and I'm not sure if I'm happy with either one.

I would also vote for a 4L80 in a street car....
you can do a 400.... but you will get tired of not having over drive....
buddy of mine drives his car all over the place with a 400....he stays at 55 on the highway because its just too much RPM for him for extended periods to be going 70 all the time...
also...you could always do something like a TCI 6x....
automatic, 6 speed, with overdrive... (mine is for sale because I'm changing to a Glide for the Race car)

Ya only reason I even am considering the 400 is because it would be cheaper but I know I will regret it in the end I have been talking doing the 80 swap for years but kept having motor problems and never had the funds to address the trans but I think it's finally time

a TH400 works great.... they just dont have an overdrive gear unless you want to spring for a Gear Vendors unit to go with it.....
and I wouldnt say a 400 is cheaper....maybe initially...
but they both can cost quite a bit to put in some decent parts to make it last.
both will do well in a street car, but a 4l80 will be more highway and distance friendly

Ya and that's what I think is more important to me I wanna be able to drive my car and not have watch my speed cause the rpms are to high.
Anyone know the best place or person to have the segment swap portion of my tune done by? For the 4l80 swap.

Let me add this, over 170 mile ride to the beach cruise, over 23 MPG, 1900 RPM's with the converter locked, able to hear the radio fine, what's not to like about an 80E, lol
That's in my LS/Procharged chevelle, and trust me it made power, but was happy just crusing-i used an aftermarket controller, so it was comp. adjustable
If GM had orig made the 400 with OD, you couldn't keep them on the shelf, but now you have to use a controller, but minor detail, lol
Since your starting out fresh more or less, you wouldn't have a huge diff in costs bet a 400 and 80E, since you could use your ECU to do the swap, guys are doing that-some hard parts upgrades maybe on an 80E, depending on your power
I rebuild my own, so no labor costs, but if I could afford it, someone else would be doing it, lol

I'm putting down 620 to the wheels as of right now I think I'm at the limit for my stock lower end 5.3 but I want my trans to be a little over kill so I know I should never hurt it.
And I hear ya on the gas mileage I use to get 23-25 on the highway and could run mid-high 10s all day it was awesome.
