4l80e trans rebuild kit
I want to try my first 4l80e rebuild it is out of a 05 van. I have ordered the atsg manual and ordered a transgo hd2 also. I have also built a stand to rotate the transmission that goes on my engine stand. I am really thinking about buying this kit and want some input from the guys that have done transmissions. I really dont want to spend more than double this for some of the other kits. I also am going to buy a circle d torque convertor.

Looks like half a rebuild kit.
Where are the shift solenoids, pressure switch, harness?
Also looks good to get you stock results, no upgrades there.
I wonder if any tech support comes with that kit?

I understand it will be pretty much a stock rebuild but from my understanding they are good till about 700hp in stock form.
I am guessing you are recommending your 750.00 kit. stage II kit

Yeah jakes support is awesome. I just did my first rebuild with their stage 2 kit and I called them about 20 times and were very helpful every time. I'd recommend them to anyone.

I rarely find "Buy it now" items on ebay to have the best price. Certainly not transmission rebuild kits. Similar kits on Amazon are only $225. Seems like half the stuff on ebay was probably bought on Amazon and then marked up.
If you are an expert rebuilder, buy a kit on Amazon or from you local trans shop.
Otherwise, better and cheaper in the long run to buy a kit from a local sponsor like Jake or North Texas Converter.

I'm simply pointing out that what you are looking at is probably exactly what you are getting and nothing more.
I buy over $250K/yr in rebuild parts from wholesalers. I get good pricing, I spend about double what you are looking at spending in content on each 4L80E we build in basic rebuild parts. Basically our Stage 2 kit. You aren't going to build an equivalent to what we do for less money than we spend. Sure there is some mark up to my Stage 2 kit. It covers our tech support time, and the kit comes with a greater parts content than what you are looking at, as well as a tips and tricks packet. We build more performance 4L80E's than anybody on the market and you get a packet that gives you MOST of our build tricks based on years of experience. That alone is worth the price difference, because it will save you the price difference many times over.
Many people shop based primarily on price and not really even looking at content, support, and other factors. I understand budget concerns.
Stock hard parts and basic rebuild parts ARE good for 700 HP, but not with stock hydraulics. What are you going to do for a valve body kit? Add that to the cost.
Also,
Keep in mind as a DIY rebuilder there's a 50/50 chance you will not succeed on the first build no matter who's kit you use, so be prepared to spend the money to do it again.

I actually bought a transgo hd2 kit but if I am understanding this right with your stage 2 kit there is directions on all the tips and tricks to the valve body to eliminate using the transgo hd2 kit. I am going to give you a call tomorrow and see what we can come up with tech support is worth money I understand that for sure.

Well hopefully jakes calls shortly so I can confirm a couple things but I went ahead and tore the whole thing apart tonight the one drum looked like it got hot but I dont know know for sure and the one bearing looks like it got hot and the outer gear in the pump has some light scuffs not sure if that is normal or not.
I need to dig my 20 gallon parts cleaner tank out from the corner next and get new fluid in it and ready to start cleaning stuff. I am not sure if certain fluid is better than others.

I am looking for a bushing installer kit I guess so I can replace all these bushings which I see are like 400. But I thought I remember guys using like a cam bearing tool or something like that.

For DIY:
I have found an inexpensive bearing installer and 3/4" socket set from Harbor Freight to be sufficient for most bushings and less than $100 for both kits:

A big variety of large sockets also helps.
Finally the old bushing often helps install the new one too.

Pump gears don't look too bad on pics. How does the pump pocket look. Look for any deep grooves, look at the crescent area for extreme wear, check the outer pump gear to pocket clearance with dry parts, check the pattern on the gear teeth, and look at the gear thickness to pocket depth.

Okay thanks I will check all that tomorrow. I spoke with Justin today and ordered all this I am not sure if you guys ended up having everything in stock and got it out I didn't see a tracking number atleast, But he said if didn't have it all he would call back to let me know. So hoped no call meant it all went out. Thanks again.
Jake the other picture I posted of the bearing is that all look normal that i posted also with the pump gears.

Freezing the bushings overnight shrinks them a couple of thousandths of an inch and makes them easier to press in. I rented the bearing and bushing install tool from Oriley auto parts to install the bushings. Between the installer tool and the various sockets I have they got the job done nicely.
