Default What size stall?

My car is a 1998 Z28 with 3.23 gears, mostly stock except for intake, maf and cat back. Will 2300-2500 stall be good? Going to get new gears soon.
Just wanna get some feedback.

No,since the factory stall is 1800,a 2300-2500 stall would be a waste of money, effort, and time. A quality stall from Yank, like a SS3600,is what should be done.

With 3.23 gears, a 3000 stall would give you a big performance boost and still be very derivable in stop-go traffic.

I have a Yank SS3200. Very derivable in stop-go traffic. But I do have a 3.42 gear.

I want to put 4.10 in. I have plans for 243 heads a cam, intake.
So I need to go bigger correct on the stall?

1 million stall. I realize you're gonna have to spin the motor up some but dont worry it wont hurt anything.

I would go with a 3600 stall, it's not too small and it's not too crazy either. You'll regret it later on if you get a tiny stall.

Thanks everyone. Sounds like the Yank SS3600 is very popular.

a 4.10 gear with an A4 is overkill. save your money and keep your 3.23 gears. with our short tires and low first gear in the 4l60e you're good. I put a generic 2800 in my car years ago and am changing to a SS3600 soon. Its in the box in my garage as we speak. wish I had done it back then

You want a 4k stall.
I had a ss3600 with all the mods in sig and was awesome. Got it to 10.9. Got a circle-d 1e 4k stall now but haven't been to the track yet. I'm kicking myself for not doing the 2e which is like a 4200-4400 stall. I feel barely any difference from the 3600 to this 4k stall.

What was your DA on your 10.9 run Joe? Still on a 10 bolt?

I'm in the same boat, got a 4k wishing I had a 4400......

Stall is dependent on torque and load.
Later with heads and cam you will want 3600 stall if you buy a 3200 stall now it may well stall at 3600 later when you put more power into it.

Also far as "what size stall" you want a 9.5" from a company like Yank, Vigilante, Circle D, Edge. Not some $450 POS.

Yep still 10bolt with 3.73 and it howls a good tune LOL.
It was stupid good around -1000 but still a low 11s car all day. Also like I said it was with the ss3600 not sure what the cd 1e 4k will do now. The tune is a little different now. The tuner picked the car up 20rwhp down low somewhere somehow so might be a big improvement we will see.

Driving a 4k+ stall on the street is not a big deal at all. Like most newbies I was afraid of going too big to. Its really only a few rpm higher.

If I was to do it again I would have gone triple disk 4k-4400.

Couple of thoughts on that. Thats damn nice DA but you're right still a solid very low 11 second car in any reasonable air. You are definitely on borrowed time with 1.5x short times on a ten bolt, especially with the potential to go even faster. My 4k cut a 1.52 last outing and hoping for a 1.4x next time. Thats with a 12 bolt though. Remember, any rear end you put in your car will make it more reliable but slow it down at least a tad. Regardless, its a strong runner and thats what makes these cars so great. Pretty cheap, pretty light, easy to make go pretty dang fast.

+1 on a 4k stall. I ran a circle d 4k stall, stock 3.23's, mild cam and bolt on's. Good air it went 11.20's 1.57 60ft. Texas heat 11.50 1.61 60ft.

Had a vigilante 3200.. drove like stock. Than switched it to a circle D 5c 4k stall and it absolutely rips. it drove just as good as my 3200.

I sold that car and picked up another fbody.. I put in another circle D 5c converter. Its easy to drive.

A 4000 stall is not overkill. It drives very smooth. I wouldnt waste my money on a 3600. I would go 4000.

I run a Yank 4000 SS and a MWC 9" with 4:10's. not bad on the street when it locks up and your in overdrive and still hits hard at the track.

Have a 3600 from FTI with the stock 3.23 gears and I think it's good for me. Not sure if you want to go with the 4000 with no experience. Bigger gears and a cam are supposed to tighten it up some but a 3600 is sometimes too big for some people.
