Converter Recommendations for 4L80E
Can you guys recommend converter for my set up - LS1 w/ BW S475, 4L80E, Car weight approx. 3300lbs, w/ 3.25 gears, going to be used 90% on street, need something that will remain streetable and drivability in reg traffic. Yank, Circle D, RevMax, Pro Torque or....??? Thanks to all for any and all help in making my decision.

Perhaps a bit biased here, but the 4l80 street/strip turbo cars and trucks are our specialty. Luckily the turbo converters are a bit larger diameter and lower stall, so that means your street manners will be pretty good. My advice would be to research the different products, and then call around and see who you feel most comfortable with.

We like the multi disk in the turbocharged applications. It can be commanded to apply the clutches under WOT so you will pick up some ET there. Tuning on a dyno is also easier with the converter locked and you don't have to worry about burning up that single lockup clutch. Only real downsides in our eyes are cost and a couple of extra pounds.. That said, we understand budgetary restraints, so we often recommend an efficient single disk for more of a street car.

I only have one recomendation, don't try to go cheap. I bought a revmax torque converter, the damn thing looked like an s10 converter with a adapter ring slapped on it. I should have know better but I ran it anyways. Now i'm rebuilding my tranny again because the torque converter blew and ripped my pump to shreds on the inside. Circle D, Vigalante, yank, all good brands.

I was thinking about trying to saving a few bucks, but keeping hearing the same thing about the cheaper brands and the nightmares that follow. I have decided to bite the bullet and go w/ either a Circle D, Yank or FTI. Was thinking about Pro Torque, but don't know if its worth the extra $$$$ over the others im looking at. Need to make a decision fast as I want to get something and get my project on the road for the summer.

$700 - $1,000 is no prob. I don't mind paying for quality and customer service. The way I look at it, I have A LOT more than $1000 invested in my car and don't want to cheap out on a part this important. But, didn't know if $1300 for Pro Torque was worth the extra $$$ over, Yank, Circle D, etc. Anyone have any experience, opinions, I don't mind spending money in the right places, but don't want to throw it away either.

I would go with the Circle D multi disc. I replaced my single disc with a CD. I use a 3000 stall speed converter and it runs like a stock converter on the street. I do some bracket racing for fun, and leaving at 1600, I can still 60 ft at 1.50. I'm not using the lockup at wot yet, haven't figured out if that will help me in the 1/8th mile. I have a PD blower and not a turbo, but Chris and Brian were very helpful.
