Default Not your typical Throw out bearing shim question.

OK so thanks for the all the threads about how to measure Throwout bearing and shims. My question is if I measured correctly(and I did a lot) does .800 of an inch sound bad? Or should I say crazy? I have a stock T56 throwout bearing but I have a quicktime bellhousing. If its off that much I need a crap load of shims to get it within limits. Thanks guys.

I suspect no one has answered because no one understands your post/question.
To me "TB" is Throttle Body, and T56 is a manual trans, not an automatic.
So what exactly do you have and what are you measuring at .800"?

Do you have a stock bell housing to compare the quick time with? Hell if you want I'll jack my car up tomorrow and measure my stock bell housing for you. Double check your measurements, post pics of them if you can.

I don't have the stock bellhousing anymore. I'll take some pictures of measurements after work today. Thanks Kevin

So there is .400ish difference between the height of my bellhousing to a stock bellhousing. If my measurements are correct and I'm .800 off, is there any harm using shims to fill that big gap?

So you would be at .400 difference with a stock bell, not terrible but still a good gap. Is the QuickTime bell housing supposed to be that far off from a stock bell dimension wise? I guess you could shim that far if you have to, you'll need longer slave bolts of course. If it was mine I wouldn't, I'd be calling QuickTime to ask them, use another bell, or have some material machined off both ends of the bell if it's your only option.

Maybe someone with actual experience with those bell housings will chime in.

With it pushed back so far you need to check input shaft depth into the pilot too to make sure it's still supported by pilot the bearing.

Not enough information.

Multiple "stock bellhousings."

Multiple "T56 stock throwout bearing" depths. etc.

There are applications where an extra thick spacer is the answer.

Thanks Kevin and Raven. I'm sure when I get the new bellhousing, everything will line up better.
