My 4L60e to Th400 swap
Follow me @sg.sg_ws6 on Instagram for updates
Alright guys I just want to share my experience with the 4L60E to th400 swap.
I already had my 4l60e built about five years ago with top-notch parts supposably able to handle 650tq. But for the past two years I have been pushing it pretty hard. I can't complain it did last me. But I always told myself when it came time that I would swap to a th400. Because I couldn't bring myself to spend another 1500 on the 4L60e just for it to go out on me. The th400 are bulletproof if built correctly.
This car's not my daily so I don't mind not having to Overdrive. This is the one things you need to know going in. I probably would not recommend this for someone that daily's their car.
These are the parts I got as followed for the swap.
FTI th400 with rmvb (shout out to the guys at FTI) trans came with 6an male fittings already on the cooler output lines.
FTI Sr 4k stall with pilot extension ( converter comes with 3 sets of bolt holes)
Hurst pistol grip shifter
Sphon th400 adapter kit
M6 crossmember
6an male to 5/16 Hardline adapter fittings for the stock cooler lines
Steel braided nylon hose
2 45 degree hose to 6an female fitting
2 straight hose to 6an female fitting
To mount the shifter to the stock location I bought the bracket from a member on here (JustAfool) I highly recommend his bracket it's top-notch
Just for reference I already had a 98 flexplate which has two sets of bolt holes to bolt converter to the flexplate. The FTI converter bolts up straight to it with the pilot extension.
Just so people know the 98 flexplate does not need a crank spacer all it needs is the pilot extension.
Things I still need to do are connect VSS to the front wheel sensor so my speedometer will work and I know I have to get this adjusted with my tuner. I also need to get my driveshaft shortened and get the th400 yoke put on it. I'm going to try to do that sometime this week.
Here are some pics enjoy. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Just an update got my drive shaft.
What initially I went in there with my driveshaft and I had to get it extended and to extend aluminum it would have been 300. Or I could have bought a brand new steel 3.5 inch steel driveshaft with New U joints for 300. So I just went with the new one it was a no-brainer. I used to Randy's driveshaft here in Houston for you Houston guys.
It'll end up measuring 43 3/4 with my strange 12 bolt
Everything installed and it's good to go its raining here in Houston right now so I haven't been able to drive it much will report back when there's better weather

TD-3350400FM Hi-Tech Trans Dipstick TH-400 Firewall Mount.
I picked it up locally. As far as locking goes it's just that has o rings. Unless you're talking about the other dipstick that has a screw that goes inside the trans pan and you screw in the dip stick to it so it doesn't have a chance of coming out.

There is a ton of room more than the 4l60e. Initially I was going to use the 45. But then once I was under there there was really no point because the fittings coming out of the th400 are already kind of angled. Therefore I only use the Straight fitting and end up using the 45 on the other end to connect to the stock lines. I have a picture at the top but I will add another one so you can see.

Any more pics and update? I ordered myself an fti stage 3 th400 Sunday and waiting for it to be delivered. Do I have to get my hands on a th400 spline yoke as well or does it come with the transmission? Where did you get yours and how much did you pay?

Our units don't include a yoke but we do have billet hardened yoke available separately.
