Default converter and gear question

i have an 02 SS A4 with 3.23 gears and am wanting a bigger stall. i was wondering what is a good stall converter for a stock car and if i should put in some 3.73s to go with it or am i better off with the stock gears?

Put the converter in and leave the gears alone. Size depends on your goals. minimum of 3000 and max of 4400. Daily driver go for something about 3500.

I was wondering the same thing. What are the benefits of gears when you have a stall/go bigger w/ a stall? This is considering upgrading the stock 10 bolt to 373/410 at most.

leave the stock gears. they are just fine and are the strongest. if you went to 373's it would tighten up the converter, but now you are weakening the rear end. 410's are defiantely not the way to go. i blew my rear with one good hook on nittos and a vig3200

A lower gear ratio (i.e. 3.73, 4.10) will take the "looseness" or the slipping feeling out of the converter, it also keeps you higher in the powerband after the shift occurs. There is a >500RPM difference between 3.23's and 3.73's.

I have a Y3000 2.0 STR coupled to 3.73's.

I would go at least a 3500 stall 2.5 or 2.7 STR for a vehicle with 3.23's.
