Default TCI SF 3000 Impresssions (Long)

FWIW, if anyone's considering this converter ... the reason I selected it is that I wanted to enhance, not degrade, daily driveability and hopefully get my car into the 12's at the track. I drive my car every day and want it to feel great for that 99% of my driving time, as opposed to putting up with something every day for the 2 or 3 times a year I go to the track. It's been about 10 days now and I'm already pretty much used to it. Here are my impressions:

- It takes a little more tip-in to get the car moving. It will still roll forward a little with your foot off the brake at 550 rpm idle.
- Shifts and cruising take place about 500rpm higher. The combination of increased revs and increased throttle opening makes it considerably louder with my GMMG exhaust.
- For the above reasons, gas mileage is a little worse.
- Rpms drop off much less between shifts than stock.
- Shift extension is 4600-4700 - more than I expected.
- With 3.42's this converter isn't "loose" at all. Tight with lots of torque. A little bit more throttle gives you a LOT more response. Light throttle will bust the tires loose in 1st easily. Medium throttle will absolutely broil them (KDWS).
- At WOT, the increase in power is substantial. I can easily see getting .5 at the track when I go in a couple of months.
- Vibrations are maybe a little better.
- It works really well with the existing tuning on my trans; no need for tuning.
- With the Pro-Built Transgo kit, shifts are quick and crisp - not harsh at all. Lock-up is very positive, almost like another shift.

Overall, I think the daily driveability of this converter is excellent. At first, it seemed really different from stock, but now, it feels normal. I went "conservative" with this converter, but I feel it met my goals.

Awesome feedback. Thanks a lot, this is exactly the info I was looking for. Would you recommend a higher TC with my 3.23's?

Great writeup. Thats very similar to my vig3200 with 3.42's. Its a tad bit looser and stalls higer, it has about a 4900 Shift extension but is still an excelent daily driver converter and with conservative driving you could fool somebody into believing its stock(well maybe)

It takes a bit of getting use to. Once I did I could never see myself going back to stock, even in daily driving configuration.

3.23's or 3.42's - same deal. Performance difference is nil.

I went 12.40s with bolt on and that converter about 4 years ago and that was with 273s out back..at 110mph . I gained 5 tenths in the 1/4 with that little converter..

Your gonna want a bigger stall real soon,,,,,lol

It's hard to remember now, 'cause it's been awhile, but we scaled for the 3.42s, increased mph for lock-up, lowered TPS% for unlock, increased mph for upshifts, lowered TPS% and/or mph for downshifts ... goals were to increase responsiveness and driveability ... keeping it in the sweet zone. The converter has only enhanced the good driveability I had with the tune.

The same converter will stall slightly higher with 3.23s over 3.42s. Not much, just slightly.
