Default Good gear/converter combo?

I just got a fairly new motor for my car, so I am trying to stay out of it for now. I have a set of 4.10's to go in my stock rear. My car is a daily driver with a stocktranny. I know I will need a cooler, but what will be a good stall to go with to keep me good on the street and at the track?

well your going to find out that 4.11's isnt the greatest for the street due to higher rpm cruise on the highway and lower gas milage. Of corse a 3.73 would be better but if your set on 4.11 you would need a converter around 3,800 and up. You would want to pic a higher str to keep it from fealing loose.. im sure others would agree.. The all around street/track stall/gear combo is a 3,500 and 3.73.

I like the gm 342s i felt they were the best matched for street strip action and drivablity , I also had a 3800 stall and it was a great combo.. 410s is alittle to low in my eyes but i guess it depends what your doing to your car for mods.. Ill bet your car will run better #s with higher gears and higher stall ... with 410s and a converter you will have a hard time finding traction....

4.10s are a big gear for street. 3.73s are just right for maximum track while still being OK on the street IMO. 3.42s are just right for me, as I dont want to be over 2500 RPMs while cruising on the interstate. When I had 2.73s my 3200 stall was very nice. Now that I've got 3.42s I think a 3800 would be perfect, as my 4000 is a touch too loose, but nothing I cant deal with. With 4.10s anything will feel tight, so go ahead and get a 4400 stall and enjoy.

Thanks guys for all the input, I will do some homwwork on the gear choice. The reasoni said 4.10 is my buddy had a good price on a set. My car feels good now, but needs a bigger stall for sure. I just wanted to get some advice on how well the "deal" gear would work or if I would be better off payin full price. Will my stock rear and tranny hold up ok with nothing more than bolt ons , canverter/gear?

wait for group purchaces on thoes and you'll save a bit. My suggestion is to get the converter first, if you look in the sponsor area fuddle racing still has a deal on converters and you can pick your stall and str.

no prob, i want to upgrade my converter to a 3,800 or so and was looking myself. I like many others will suggest that you dont go under 3,500 otherwise you will probably want to upgrade later.
