help....something just happened to my tranny:(
i just figured out my header problem...just as everyone suspected plugs and wires...so i changed them and the car ran fine. i get to the end of my block and i get on it hard. It pulls hard as hell. But when i got on it it downshifted to first (98 a4) and right before it hit second my dumbass accidentally slipped it into neutral then i tried to get it back into drive and it just revs up and then i put it down into 3rd and same thing just revs up. When i put it into 2nd it goes into gear and 1st it goes into gear. When i put it into second it does not go past 2nd (makes sense) what could i have done? what should i check for? please help

first and foremost when's the last time you had your fluid changed? has it been sitting for any long periods? i wouldnt go jumping to a mechanic about this until you atleast flush the fluid , but be careful. i hate tranny problems, they're the worst, on any car

fluid was just changed recently and its only been sitting like 5 days. i also notice a grinding type noise from the tranny in 1st gear if i tap the throttle hard. like very metalic noise with some vibration.

well, brought it to the shop they said got get it rebuilt. the quoted me $1290. Is that fair? plus the guy said he was gonna put in a "corvette torque converter" he claims that it is a higher stall than my 98 a4 ta. he claims it has a 2500 stall. is this guy right? what do u guys think of the price and the converter?

As far as the rebuild, if youre going to go, you might as well go all out with a Vigilante.

i wasnt manually shifting my auto. I always rest my right hand on the shifter while driving, just habit. i must have ever so slightly pushed forward and thats how it went into neutral. i never manually shift my auto.
