T56 to Th400 short tail. Lengthen Drive Shaft?
Has anyone had to lengthen their drive shaft when converting (from a T56) to the Th400 short tailshaft?
From what I can gather it looks like the short tail shaft TH400 will move the mounting point towards the rear by about 1/2". It is also looks about 3 1/2" shorter than the T56.
I like the idea of the mounting point being closer to the T56 and being able to use the T56 crossmember, but I am worried about it being shorter overall and having to lengthen the drive shaft. I can have it shortened for free, but I will have to pay to have it lengthened.
The long tailshaft (9" tail) will move the mounting point about 1 1/2" past the T56 cross member mount, but is about 1 1/8" longer overall.
I do not mind sending the driveshaft back to be shortened, because I do have to send it back to have the Th400 yoke installed anyway. I just do not want to have the driveshaft lengthened and have to pay extra for it.
This is also on a Moser 9" rear, so would I have to make the driveshaft longer with the short tail shaft 400?
Thanks,
Kevin

Get a better driveshaft. Madman Racing sold me a complete setup for my TH400, including a billet input shaft. I know you think you can save a few bucks by using your old shaft, believe me, if your gonna run some serious horsepower, lose the stock drive shaft.

Does anyone know if it will have to be longer to be used with the short tail TH400
Thanks,
Kevin

drive shaft
you guys that are asking how long a d shaft will be have to know that there is not just one th400 yoke. so get the yoke you are going to use then get your d shaft made.

I have the option of the short and long tailshafts for my 400, and I was trying to figure out if I would have to pay to lengthen my driveshaft or if I could get it done for free by shortening it.
It seems like if people spent more time reading the intial posts then they would have would understand more of what is going on.

This is the first that I have heard of the yokes being a different length, what lengths do the normally offer? Are they typically longer than the T56 yoke, or shorter?
