Installed a MS3 cam and now tranny problems
I replaced my Comp Cam XER 224 with a MS3 cam. Now my TCI SSF 3500 stall is not locking up on the highway and causes the tranny temps to hit 210*. Is this a tuning issue or is the converter junk? The car flashed a code P1870 (Trans Slipping).

What color is the tranny fluid?
Does the fluid smell burnt?
Your tranny has two speed sensors, input and ouput, the computer has a set specification for slippage, when compared to each sensor reading and what gear you are in. If the slippage is greater than these specification, the computer throws this code, this does not mean your tranny crap out on you. You could have a bad sensor, other than that you tranny is about to crap out on you.

Misfires turn off the TCC lock but then you would not get
the slip code, slip code only sets when it's supposed to be
locked but flares too much. The TCI wimp clutch up against
more torque and low line pressure, is the problem. For me
the only short-term fix was bumping up the low-load line
pressure by reducing force motor current (pretty radical
changes to the profile, which I'm not going to recommend
but haven't broken anything yet) and maxing the TCC min
duty. Long term solution: better converter. But you will
need to look at misfire tables too I fully expect.

im in the same boat, my car ran perfect and i installed (all at the same time) ms3,fuddle 4k 2.4str, 26k cooler, fast 78mm tb, long tubes with no cats and had the computer tuned by pcmforless. the car wouldnt idle or lock up. i put the stock tb on and drilled it out and it would idle when it warmed up and would lock up on the e way but 2 of the 4 times i ran it at the track when it shifted to second it acted like it went strait to 4th??? I put a new TPS sensor on and tried the fast tb again. NO LUCK! I think its the tune..... I hope at least
and the car only ran 12.29@109mph with a 1.69 60ft time???? even with the stock ls1 intake i was expecting 11's with a 113ish mph.

I am battling the same thing at the time, it might end up in the river or something before it is all over with.

Pull your tranny dipstick and check near the bottom to see if it looks rusty. Easy way to check for burnt clutches. I'm not seeing why if you were all ready running an aftermarket cam w/ the converter and was tuned for that setup why a cam swap is going to cause your tranny to act up. Something just isn't adding up to me.

it doesn't make sense to me why the cam install would effect it.. bu ti am having similar problems with my transmission right now.. My SS4000E for a while would lock up at 30-35 mph perfect.. started having electrical problems.. had all of them cleared, and had 6 new quarts and a filter put in.. and now my TC will lock up.. then it will unlock randomly.. and it no longer does it at the given 35 mph anymore.. it doesn't make sense to me.. but i think i have tuning issues also.. or my TC's lock up clutches are wacked out? good luck.. i call my tuner to get mine in.. i'll let ya know what happens!
