Default 4L60e Died.....Again?

Recently my A4 lost 3rd gear during normal driving. Since I had just recently purchased the car I carried to a local trans rebuilder and he said that the 3rd and 4th gear clutch packs were shot. So he done a basic overhaul for me and off we go. I get the trans install a GTO pan, TCI SF 3000 and a B&M Supercooler and slap it in. 27 miles later same exact thing happened. I have know clue as to what is going on.

I've decided to just replace the entire unit since it sounds like a serious hardpart is obviously defective. What transmission would you guys recommend for a street car with basic bolt-ons and no sticky tires?

A built 4l60e, go ahead and spend the money on a good built tranny, it will save you money in the end !

Mine just went out for the second time. First time was 1 1/2 years ago. I am putting it in the shop Monday. These things are pretty "ify" from what I hear. GOOD LUCK !!

Make sure your converter is working properly while you get your rebuild.

Converter is Brand New. The trans done exactly, to the tee, the same thing this time as it did when it was stock.

What manufacturer does everyone recommend?

Listen up...your transmission is a slave to the car ,computer, associated wireing, battrey voltage, and the list goes on...when your transmission burns up you must find the cause and address it before you put another one in or the new transmission will do the same thing.....you know burn up! and yes it can also be from an improper tune..Hope this helps ..Dave

Finish Line, Gearstar, and Rock-On are the most commonly mentioned sponsors. I've heard great things about all of them, and one of the three will get my service when I decide I need a knew tranny.

The level 3 trannies should stand up to bolt-ons/stall/stickies pretty well.

If the tune checks out and the overall car condition is good, what do I look for?

Yeah i've heard SOOOOOO many horror stories about guys taking it to a "local" tranny shop or "this guy a friend knows".
I'm not a big fan of the 4L60E but if i had to get one rebuilt i'de look ito one of our sponsers have heard good things about all of them.
I'de rather pay the shipping on a good rebuild than save a couple hundred bux and be doing it again in 6 months.
BTW Rck On: is a full manual 4L60E tranny possible?

4l60e built right can hold mid 600 hp, you have to get a real builder not some goon who does ford Taurus's mostly. I burned up 5 from taking it to a tard who thought he knew what to do. Then Transmission Physcians from Tampa Fl built and whata ya know no more problems and with more Hp added.

Thanks guys.

I think I'm going to order a new GM unit through my work since I can get a good deal. Do you guys feel it will handle a bolt-on car with street tires and a TCI SF3000?

BTW... I also have a GTO pan and B&M Supercooler installed.

Well with your mods it will work but for how long. What kinda money are they charging you? I would have to think around $1200 or so. Also is the unit a gm certa? If so I'm telling you right now that my core return pile is full of them. For a little more money one of us sponsors can give you a much better piece.

What would I be looking at dollar figure wise and turn around? I'm actually going to sell the car and I need to get it rolling soon? Would it be feasible for me to able to enjoy the car with a GM trans for 15-20K?
