I'm looking into converters to liven up the car. 3500 stall probably. I have the stock 2.73s in it and dull exhaust, thats it. Would it be smart to get a flewplate or shift kit put in while its in the shop?? anything else im missing? thanks

Just get the converter for now. You are right on with your stall speed selection. You won't need a new flexplate. The performance increase will amaze you. Later if you feel you need a shift kit they are installed with the transmission still in the car so removing the tranny won't be need to be done again.

if you are thinking 3500...then that really means you want a 4,000. Trust me, you will get bored with it and wish you had a 4000 + converter. I am bored with my 3600 already The converter is also gonna soften up your shift feel. Definetly would not be a bad idea to go Transgo right off the bat. Good luck man

Yea, thanks a lot for the input. Im gonna be thinking about the transgo shift kit. From what i read it should be a simple yes or no answer if i ask a trans shop if they install transgo shift kit.

This man knows. I would go with some 300 rpm's higher than your initial choice.

Dont get a trans shift kit those are crap, get a tune once you get the stall in and get your shift points set by the tuner, might aswell do gears while its getting tuned also. Im getting a 4400 fuddle stall with 3.73s from my crappy 2.73s and my car has already been tuned and can smoke tires with these crappy gears already so i cant imgaine what it will do with a stall and 3.73s.

let me no how that works out (the 3.73s). if u havent seen any of my other threads i start, i always wonder if 3.73s in a 2 series carrier is worth it. i hear a lot of bad things. actually i hear mostly bad things about those thick gears and whining and all that. any words of wisdom u can throw me to help me feel a little better bout that?

i really want 3.73s but i dont wanna risk it. thanks man

it depends on the gears you get, motive seems to be the best next to GM gears. Richmond i hear wine alot, as long as you have the gears set up right and get the whole kit then you will be fine. If you also want you could buy a three series carrier to put in it.

For now and after reading a LOT of threads, i like the 2.72s. If im gonna upgrade gears im just gonna save up my pennies for a 12 bolt. Im sure that wont be for a while tho. In the mean time, i want my 10 bolt to last so i dont even wanna take a chance.
