well when you shift manually it raises the line pressure so it will give more holding pressure it actually goes into boosted pressure just like for reverse.....also it could be the forward clutches bad and when in manual the ovverrun clutches come on also to assist the forward clutches in holding when they normally only come on for engine braking on decel...the overrun clutches come in in manula just to give a little more holding power (more friction material) becuase in manual the pcm thinks that there is a heavy load...one of these two reasons is why it does fine in manual shifting

btw as lonng as you have no broken or worn parts round 1500 to 2000 the kit is only about 230 all together for a stock build
4l60e banner kit 69.95
wide band 29.00
superior shift kit 34.00
torque converter 75.00
forward sprag i beleive i pay 27.00
low roller clutch 18.00
so the stock parts are not expensive trannies are mostly labor time but this should help you from getting ripped off
but i always replace the front pump also with a 13 vane pump
and i also put the 3-4 hd commercial clutch pack kit in them whether they want a stock build or not better for me for warranty purposes id rather spend another 150 bucks on the damn thing than have it come back becuase the 3-4 wore out becuase they were beating the hell out of it

does that kit come with the Alto 3-4 HD kit 9 clutches instead of 6 also make sure toget the beast sunshell and if you can afford it get the 5 pinion planet for the rear planet you dont really need it for the front the rear planet runs 1-2 the front runs 3-4 so you really only need the rear planet to be strong also look into the superior shift kit and the 13 vane front pump highly recommended and make sure to plug off the 3rd accumulator call me and i will tell you how......as far as servos i reccomend the corvette servo there are better but for the price cant beat it also the other servos tend to apply just a little to hard for a street car......unles you like a banging 2nd gear then just put conduit in place of the accumulator

Let us know how long that lasts you....
I am sure that alot of guys will concurr... If you put a band aid on an arterial cut... well, you see my analogy...

I am having a stage 4 built from Rock On... YES.. it's $$$$... but that will be the last time i have to do it.

For awhile anyway... @ least 2 yrs... "warranty"..

I threw away approx. $750.00 rebuild and R&R... and it lasted roughly 6 months...

Prior to that.. My original 4L60E made it approx 200K miles.... YEAH... No BS!!

Anyway.. good luck buddy... Let us know how it goes...

the input drum is the hardest part to build takes a little skill to get the 3 pistons in without having all the special tool to do it like the seal protectors and what have you but not impossible i dont have the special tools i just use a feeler guage to install the pistons..........make sure to get you an ATSG book they are about 16 bucks.....you will need it it is the bible for these trannies and all others........honestly you would be better to have someone who knows how to do it work with you a 4 speed is not a good tranny to learn on....i started with the 400 and 350 and worked my way from there....my first 4l60e worked fine but i had been doing it for a while the principle is still the same but on the 4l60 there is alot of parts to keep up with now i have got to where i will throw the parts to a 400, 41te, 4t60e, 4l60e and whatever else i have all in the same cleaning bucket i just know the parts now but takes a while....but expect the tranny not to work if it does then you will be happy...this is the price you are prolly gonna pay for wanting to teach yourself....luckily i had a very good teacher and that is the way he taught me just throw it all in the bucket it makes you think a little
