Am i makin a newbie mistake?
I want to buy a torque converter. Im thinking about getting a tci with 3500 stall. Is this a good choice? What else will i have to do or buy once i get the TC like a tranny cooler? Also how much is it to install one of these bad boys?

i dont think his question was wether a converter was a good idea... his question was is this a good choice? There are many opinions about converters, if you are looking for bang for buck get a fuddle or tci, if money in not an option and you want something better get a vig or yank...

I think TCI has a Super Street Fighter that I have read good things about. I believe TCI flashes about 3-400 RPMs than they are rated. That' s a good start, I think, because it seems most people think they started with a TC that was too small.
Definately get a cooler.
You can do it yourself, although, it is a pain without a lift.

The only newbie mistake here is to mod the hell out of the car BEFORE changing out the torque converter.
^ agreed, Getting a torque converter is one of the best mods for an a4

Do the stall and cooler at the same time. I'd also do a deep pan, not so much for a cooling effect but more so for ease of changing your fluid.
Stall was one of my first mods. lid, cutout, pulley then stall.
