Sounds like a similar problem that my A4 would do occasionally ... punch it for kick-down, it would downshift, but then upshift, and go into this "holding pattern" for awhile?! To me it seemed like it would go to lock-up in 4th gear or something stupid?? All I know is that all acceleration would basically STOP. If I let off the pedal, it would "find itself" again, and everything would work normal again?? I don't know WHAT caused that, and barely know how to describe it!

...too late now, 'cause my tranny finally blew 2nd gear, and now I put a T56 in the car!

It sounds like the torque converter is locking up. I have seen this before. Try Ed Wright at www.fastchip.com. He is very knowledgeable on the electronics, and should be able to help you out on this.
