Default Torque converter bolts

This may be a stupid question, but do you get to the torque converter bolts by taking the starter out and go through that hole? This is on a 98 TA (LS1). Thanks for any help!

Yes you do. There should be 3 13mm or 15mm bolts if I can remember right.

they are 15mm but I have seen some round ones on a few cars that need to be removed with a hex key socket.

some are the 8mm hex ones. use a name brand tool, otherwise it'll round them out. If you want to make the job easier, you should probably get a torch to heat them up, otherwise even an impact will not break them loose in some cases.

The 98's for sure have the 8mm hex bolts, mine did anyway. I also had to hit them with a torch for 30 secs and then hit it with a 600ft lb impact.....those f*ckers were on there good!!!!

The bolts on my '02 were a 15mm bolt, with the hex in the middle! But yeah, even on my '02 (not that old really) the bolts were in there pretty tight!

you can take out the starter(obviously) then get an extension over the k member and have you impact on the other side of it.
