Automatics and autocross races?
do any of you guys use an auto in Autocross solo events? i recently sold my C5 FRC. I loved the 6 speed in it. i want to get back into an ls1 but all the fbody 6 speeds for sale here in north texas are ragged out. there are a lot of nice autos though. these days whats more important to me is the fun factor of a car. i want to build a fun autocross car, so does anybody have an auto autocross car.

I don't autocross but you would want to work
on the shift point profile for part throttle to
get rid of some dumb factory things (like no
2-1 kickdown above 10MPH except WOT,
etc.) and probably get a converter that is
powerband-friendly but not a full drag type.
Something that favors smooth control of
torque. Properly set up an automatic will
just follow your foot, set up wrong it can
be a detriment to control (fun, OK, but the
cones aren't supposed to be bowling pins).

There are a couple of people I know that auto-X their autos and have been regional champs, heck I think a national champ once use an auto. Anyway, yes I auto-X with my stalled A4. It is a lot of fun. I do very well. See my avatar. You do not use the shift tables in auto-X, just start in first, then manually shift to second and leave it there. Auto-X very rarely gets up to 70 MPH. Perfect range for an A4's 2nd gear (1.63 and 3.23s).
