Default Shift Kit

Christmas is coming up and i am trying to get some things in order before the car goes up on stands for winter. I was wanting to get suggestions about a shift kit. I have been looking at the Transgo on summit and i like the decription:TransGo's Performance shift kits give you the hard-launching, tire-blazing shifts you want, after just a few hours' work with basic hand tools. TransGo even has kits for computer-controlled 4-speed automatics. Their performance shift kits can be installed with the transmission in the vehicle, and they come with complete instructions and a step-by-step video to walk you through the installation process. H ave you guys tried this kit and if so do you like it ?

I have the trans-go in my a4 and love it! Best thing you can do for an automatic. I believe you can adjust the firmness of the shifts, mine is set up to be pretty firm, but not so hard that its annoying to just ride in.

Other than that.... watch second gear... she will come loose when you get it past 4 grand...lol.

Oh, and when you are down there, go ahead an install a trans cooler if you do not have one already. It isn't one of those things you gotta have, but its nice to have, just to prevent overheating..

Trans go HD2, not the best thing you can do as far as perfromance(wont increase 1/4 mile times by much at all, also will not increase horsepower), but it makes the drive a lot more fun!

I just put a transgo (-HD2 1A) in mine .. 1st to second shifts @ WOT are nice!!! I set mine up the the highest settings (the post washers (3) and drilled to the highest size. Not too firm for me at all, not even part throttle.

If you need any info on the install, let me know. I still have to get my shift lever to read correct .. I think I bolted back to the trans. one bolt hole off .. arrgg!!

The shifts will not be as firm unless you are running a factor stall converter. A high stall will absorb alot of the shift firmness. The Transgo kit should extend the life of the tranny unless you are just getting crazy with the HP level. I have pushed my stock tranny to 11.03 with the Transgo kit. I know I am on borrowed time though.

I'm not exactly shure what kit I bought, but it was the popular one that pro built autos "modded" and I went with his suggestions on hole sizes and washers (1) and it's great on the streets, other than a stall and SFC's it was my best mod.

Same here - it's the HD2 and it has been great!

How do you install this? Can the shift firmness be switched by a touch of a button? (for instance if you don't want it to shift hard one day you can flip a switch and it goes back to normal firmness)?

Nope. We're talking hard parts in the valve body ... you figure out what you want, put it together, and that's what you get.

Adjustments (shims and drilling) are done durring install ... some things can be un-done, some things can't (drilling the plate).

90% is done above the pan (assuming your trans is still in the car). The most difficult part is some technique in disassembly that the kit directions don't cover. No biggie .. enough people on here have done it and can walk you through.

I have the TransGo. Absolutly love it. I have mine set to full race, and its very streetable still (even with a 3600 stall). Feels WAAAAAAY different.

So is the Summit kit the HD2, if not is it just as good?? Sorry dont mean to hijack I'm in the same situation and didnt want to start another thread. And for a bolt on car is a single B&M 24k cooler a good choice?

The beauty of the HD2 kit is that it doesn't give you harsh shifts during part throttle, but firms up quite a bit during WOT so you get the best of both worlds.

HD2 is the way to go! ProBuilt Automatics (google them), sells them in a "modifed" form. they are a 700r4/4l60e specialist, so you know they know what to do. IIRC, it was actually cheaper thru them too.

how is the shifting at wot?
clean?
crisp?
quick?

im looking to tighten up the 2-3 shift, where i have a bit of lag, or lazy kinda feel at wot.

I asked the same thing when I was talking to the rep at Transgo ... He told me that a kit won't help 2-3 shifts much. He told me to lower my shift points to 5500-5800 and they should firm up. He says that's where the 4L60E was designed to shift at.

I hope that helps ...

With your cam, shifting at 5500-5800 is going to leave power on the table. One reason Pro-built modifies the Transgo is to call for larger feed holes in the 2-3 circuit. This results in very crisp 2-3 shifts.
