scraping/dry bearing sound near converter
new transformance 4l80e
new yank sc3000, tci flexplate
bs3 trans control
all the bolts are tight, no exhaust hitting, nothing rubbing the case inside or out, no leaks, no metal dust. no significant metal (yet) on trans plug magnet
it was originally not there at all from 0 to 20 miles
from 20-60 miles it would only make this noise during a med. throttle 1-2 shift
from 60-80 miles it would do it rolling easy off a light about halfway to the 1-2 shift point in addition to the 1-2 shift
80-100 miles (now) it seems to do it randomly for a split second in any gear and always on the 1-2 shift, but still never on the others.
i am considering sending the converter to yank for an inspection because thats the easiest/cheapest option right now.
i have done some searches, and found comments on similar sound during lockup. but my converter locks up fine in 3rd and 4th with a positive feel and no sound.... yet anyways.
thoughts appreciated.

Does it happen on the shift point, or on the rpms approaching the shift point? If it is during the shift point, I would suspect the transmission, if it happens upon ramp up towards the shift point (and in all gear) I would suspect the converter. Since it sounds like it is isolated to only the 1-2 shift, I would suspect the transmission first. Not saying it is not the converter, but from my knowledge of converters, this is my opinion.
So to be clear, the sound is a light "grinding" sound in the bellhousing area?

it originally happend exactly during the 1-2 shift, but now happens on the way towards the 1-2 shift and during cruise randomly for split secodns during 1-2-3rd gears that i can tell.
i would more call it scraping than grinding, or if you had ever heard a large bearing go into shake when it siezes up

Most anything in the trans that would cause a rubbing or scraping sound would most asuridley result in the destruction of the trans in very short order I would be looking for and external cause flex plate. starter, I have seen the brackets for fuel lines caught between the bell rubbing converter even ,
