Default Easiest way to change the transmission fluid?

OK guys-

I am leaking fluid, looks like the gasket got jacked some how..

Either myself or the wife took the car over a hump and dented the fluid pan.. Anyway, I know where the leak is and am going to see about pulling the pan, replacing it and the gasket..

I'm wondering if there is a "best way" to remove the fluid, other than just dropping the pan? If dropping the pan is it, so be it, but I didn't wanna get covered in tranny fluid if I didn't have to..

Thanks

Jeff

Just let one side hang down and it wont be so full when you do drop it. While you have it out, go get a "bung"/drain put in or get a pan that has a drain...

The only other opening I know of is the fill/stick tube. You could suck some out of there, but Id put money on you still having a mess. I just overfilled my trans, and resorted to doing that with a plastic tube. It took a while to get the half quart out that I needed out, but it worked.

Thanks guys.. I think I will get a bung put in..

The pan has a dent in it, so I may need a new pan...

Any advice on what transmission fluid to pick up?

If you think changin out an A4 to get a new A4 back in is hard.. Try changing it to an M6... Just stick with the A4. Sounds like you got enough on your plate right now.

since your pan is dented, i'd just buy a deep pan for a 4L65E from GM.... and they have plugs in the bottom

If you are going to replace the pan, punch a hole in it for a less messy drainage. This is what I did on my minivan like 2 weeks ago. Worked great and no messier than an oil change.

I thought about picking up a deep pan, but do they hang down any lower than the stocker? If they do, and I dented up the stocker, I'm sure I'd drag the deep pan..

Yeah no kidding...GMHTP ran an article on the swap, and its ridiculous. It also cost them over $4k including a new clutch (a good one).

For that price and the work, you would probably be better off considering selling your car and buying another with the opposite transmission already equipped.
