Burnout in 1st or 2nd?
Hello all,
Search is down, so in short my question is...
When doing a burnout in the waterbox, should I be in first or second?
I ask this because while talking to a few car guys they said it is hard on the tranny doing a burnout in 1st, and I should put it in second.
Is there any thruth to this, or is it all a bunch of non-sense.
thanks for the help!
Rich

I heard the same thing so I do all my burnouts in second. I figure it helps protect against bouncing the rev limiter by accident and it makes one less position I have to move up on the shifter when I stage.
Use 2nd gear FTW!

If you are in 1, you stay in 1st even to the limiter. If you are in 2, you start in 2nd and stay in 2nd to the limiter.
At least that's what both my stock and built transmissions have done.

Yes some cars will not stay in first even though manually selected the PCM can overide and cause and upshift to second. Now you can hold it down in second as long as you like, This is and issue the transgo kit tackles by changing the valve so the car can stay in first reguardless of what the PCM comands

I used to do that too. When I swapped to slicks and 4400 stall the tires would stop spinning sometimes when it shifted into 3rd. I'd have to really get into the gas to break them free again. Didn't think that was too good on everything.....getting a hot sticky tire to spin. Maybe my car is just weird but I've never had a problem with 2nd gear burnout.
