Default Any tips for lowering tranny temp

I have a th400 with a PTC 3800 converter and a Perma Cool 10x15.5 cooler in front of the radiator. My problem is when I have been driving for more than 20 min. and get into slower traffic/stop and go. As long as I am driving at highway speed it stays at 180. But in slower traffic it is creeping over 200. Will a fan on the cooler help enough or should I change to a pan with a extra quart capacity as well? Any other tips?

I had high temps with a 4000+ TC, but I also had trans. problems. I havent used it yet, but I got the Permacool w/ fan, and hope it helps. I'm installing a Performabuilt lvl 2 this weekend, so I'll post up temps soon...

Old B&M next to the new...

Are you using the radiator built in cooler also? If so, are you running your cooler before or after the radiator cooler? After radiator cooler I hope.

A fan on the cooler will help as it will push air through at the slower traffic when airflow is slow. If that is not enough, get a deeper pan also; an aluminum pan will help even more.

No. I have heard using the radiator cooler doesn't work well.

Buy a spal 7" or 9" fan and add it to what you have. Its light and very slim.
Or, sell your current trans cooler and buy the B&M with the Spal 9" fan already on it.
