4l60e drum lugs sheared off
What causes the lugs for the retainer ring on the input shaft drum of 3-4 clutches on a 4l60e to shear off ? This is the second time it has happen and I need a fix.

I have seen that happen when a very thin retaining ring is used to try to get "just 1 more clutch " in the drum !! The retaining ring will flex up and break the lugs . But yes too high line pressure will do it also .

Ok. Too high line pressure? Now im worried...I was talked into going with a servo bigger than the corvette servo as well as going with a shift kit. I was told higher line pressure=good. Nothing was mentioned about cause and effect of too high line pressure!
Should i be worried?

Any time you increase line pressure you put more stress on "hard parts " . That's why you go with a better sun shell and band and also friction material in clutches ! The shift kit will not normally increase line pressure to a problem level . When you hear of guys turning the screw on the force motor and addind shim to the pressure regulator valve is when you risk blowing parts up !

I have also seen the things above case this failure. Another thing that I believe will case this is when the feed hole for the 3rd clutch is to large along with the info stated above. I have been working on this issue for a bit now and in the last 2 years we have not seen this failure. It really is a matter of finding a good balance in the unit. Good luck, Vince.

Will the line pressure fluctuate if you have a high rpm miss (about 6000 rpm) and cause this to happen? My car has a miss and trans broke after a couple of passes down the track
