Default Cooler size?

I just ordered an SS3600 from Yank and they have two choices of transmission coolers that come with it. There is a 24,000gvw cooler and a 30,000gvw one. Would there be any negatives to getting the bigger one? The dimensions of the 24k one are 7 3/4" x 3/4" x 11", and the 30k is 9 7/8" x 3/4" x 11". Would there be any reason not to go with the 30k cooler?

Thanks

Either cooler should do the job the downfall of the larger cooler would be a less efficient A/C

Well I can't get one from somewhere else because Yank is having a sale right now where you get a free cooler with it. Anyway, I don't know much about these, but why would the bigger one cause worse A/C (not that I use it much at all anyway)?

As far as I'm aware right now there isn't one there stock, except maybe using the radiator. I've only read one article about it, but that's the way I understand it. I could be wrong though pretty easily if I remember wrong.

You can get a deep cast aluminum pan. That will help cool some more.Either of those size coolers would work fine and you can disconnect your stock cooler and just connect your stock lines to your new one.

the reason it may make the A/c less efficient is if you mount it on front of the condensor and it covers more of the surface area of the condensor it will make the heat exchange between the condensor and the air less effficient....The condensor is like a radiatior for the A/C system. when the freon passes through the evaporator it takes the heat from the car and transfers it to the freon and then it goes to the compressor where it is compressed to make it hotter the hotter something is the more transfer it makes remember heat travels from a hot area to a cooler area it then goes to the condensor to be cooled thus the heat transfer....if you have something in front of the condensor that is already hot it can make this heat exchange less efficient

Well I got a B&M 24000 btu cooler, I couldn't get it mounted on the AC condenser though. About how much cooler should I run with that on? Just an estimate?

Talking about trans coolers, I bought a flex-a-lite transmission cooler size 10"x20"x3/4"
26,000gvw and was wondering if this cooler will fit my 98 Camaro and if its a good brand.

I am not sure what it stands for but the higher the better . Mine is like 28k or 32k. I can't remember.

I know this thread is old, but i see you ran a 12.2 in the 1/4. Very good ET. I was wondering what you would run.

What was your 60' on them nittos?

I got a best of 1.73. They weren't sticking the best in the world, but obviously a lot better than my F1's.... lol. I like them though. If they really last as much longer than the BFG's and ET streets then I think they're worth itThey didn't hook too well on the street, but then I realized that I had them at like 30psi and they were supposed to be around 20, so now hopefully they'll be better . For me anyway, being on the street most of the time they are pretty nice (if you have the money to replace tires all the time, unlike me, I would go with something stickier though).

If I understand it right - The GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) is important because the heavier the vehicle, the more load the tranny is under to pull it. The more load on the tranny the more heat it produces/transfers to the fluid. The more heat in the fluid the larger/more efficient the cooler needs to be to cool the fluid, which keeps the tranny cool. The GVW is the weight of your car plus the largest load it can possibly carry. Theoretically, the GVW is the largest load the tranny could possibly see.

Usually around 3k. I haven't pushed it past that yet. I've only launched it a couple times so far hehe.

It's gotta be cement though. Asphalt, I'll just spin till 2nd gear.

You?

Hmm... ok. Well I couldn't even do that at the track. Mine wouldn't hook as well if I started any higher than 2500 and flashed it up. I know I can get that high though, because on the cement in our driveway I stalled it above 3000 with my old f1's .

Well it's probably better that you can't. I imagine that isn't very good on the ol 10 bolt. Besides, I have read SOME people get a better '60 ft by launching at idle.
