Default converter in a 4l60e.

ok i think my stall converter is bad. i can get a brand new one for just under 400$. it is a 2500 stall which is what i had in there. my question is how hard is it to change the stall converter in a 4l60e trans? a tranny shop said they have to take the transmission apart to do it. and they want 450 labor.
what do you guys think......and i am mechanically inclined

if the converter is bad thats in it yes they may have to disassemble the trans and clean it out as in debris from the converter....

i blew the converter the day be for our local dragrace/burnout contest and it was 7 at night we found one for 3500 . started at 8 in a 1 car garage on four jackstands. no breaks or bathroom stops didnt finish tell 8 the next mourning 2 hours before the race. it easy to change it just hard getting the top bolts on the transmission to drop it lol so yea its fun.

What makes you think your converter is bad?

I would not dig one out until I knew for sure I had to.

the reason i think its the converter is that i just had the fluid changed 3 days ago and the fluid is burnt to hell. and the tranny shop said its a 85% chance its the converter. the computer is not throwing any codes and there is no debris in the tranny.

also what stall speed would you recomend, i was thinking of 2500 or 3000 stall, i have bolt ons, no internals. and a 12 bolt with 4:11 gears. i want fast and hard launches, lots of acceleration.
