Default New to the A4 - Trans Leak at front - Help!

This is my first experience with the A4 - my last car was an M6. Hoping someone could shed some light on this for me.

I am leaking trans fluid, pretty significant quite a few drops overnight from the front of the trans. There looks like there are two inspection plugs? underneath the housing and the fluid is weeping out of there. It also looks like there is a small crack where the housing bolts up - it does not look significantly structural.

Does a leak here indicate a front seal? There really does not look like there is any way to inspect it other than dropping the trans.

Help!

It could be a number of reasons for the leak. Worn out gasket, loose bolt/s. Too much line pressure, torque converter not holding fluids, defective pump,. It's best to have a trans technician look at it.

You could be leaking at the front seal but generally that would only leak when the car was running and is ussually substaintial , More likley your eiher leaking at the pump bolts or pump oriing. It is very difficult to determine which. Generally when I see a leak in that area I replace the pump oring, orings on pump bolts and front seal and pump gasket.

I have seen leaky pans get blamed for a leak out the front because the bell area is the lowest point. I would try to brake clean the trans off very well even inside the bell area and dry it up thoroughly. Then keep an eye on it to see where it is coming from. Good luck. Vince

Did that last night. Car was on the ramps overnight and the leak is where noted. Hasn't even gotten the pan wet.

All of these require dropping the trans?

That varies wildly I would say anywhere from 400 to 1000 dollars
