Default Tranny help again.

Okay here is the problem still:

I crank my car up and it runs fine, no more knocking (knocking was due to missing teeth on the flexplate) The car will go and drive fine as long as i am under 3k on the tach. It will go into 2nd pretty easy, but it wont engage into third. But if i pump the gas, or stop and then put it in Reverse, the car wont move, feels like it is in Neutral. just revs. As soon as that happens i lose ALL GEARS, they just feel like Neutral. weird huh. as soon as i cut it off wait a sec and cut it back on it works again , until i do what was just stated.
things i tried:

Replaced Flexplate - Replaced
Checked Fluid - Good added a little more
Checked Trans Cooler - Good

Could the stall be faulty?
what should my next step be?

Thanks in advance. I would like to add that I DONT THINK ITS THE TRANNY AT ALL. Perfomabuilt made me a very strong 4l60e. And I love it. They also have been there every step of the way in troubleshooting. Still give them 2 thumbs up.

I know you checked the fluid and may not beleave theres a trans problem and perhaps there is not , But as with all things mechanical stuff does happen so I suggest pulling the pan and making and inspection. And out of curiosity when you loose all gears does park still work and hold the car from rolling?

Are you getting any codes? Have you used a scan tool to verify that the computer is commanding the transmissions to function properly. I know I have read that Frank has made a couple break out boxes to test transmissions. Maybe you should ask to see if he has one to loan you to determine if the problem is in the trans or in the vehicle. Just a thought. Vince

Thanks. Just makes sense to isolate the trans from the vehicle and then determine where the problem is.

Yes because it certainly is a strange set of symptoms. For sure.

removed the tranny and looked through everything one last time. When i say missing teeth i dont mean they were gone. If you look at the flexplate each little tooth is slanted. Looks like wear. I havent moved it off the lift yet, will hopefully do that tomorrow. I f-ed myself, the dipstick insert that you put in the hole. Well it came out and i forgot to put it back in. looks like i have to pull everything off and put it back in. Dumb me. lol... I dropped the pan and no shavings. Fluid is a little dark, but i dont think thats a problem.

Drove the car off the lift today. Drove it home, felt REAL slippy. thought it might just be the stall. Then, I drove around the neighborhood and it started all over again. this time i have NO Gears when i cranked it back up. when i was connecting the stall to the flexplate i noticed i had to slide it foward about a half and inch to make it flush against the flexplate. Should i really have to do that? could it be that cause my stall is pulled out that far from the tranny that the car goes into neutral? The bellhousing still mounts FLUSH to the engine.

Search the threads that I have started. One of them has specific directions for converter spacing. I believe the title was converter install directions. The point of the thread was about converter spacing. However if your converter was pulling out of the pump you would have completely broke the pump or severely damaged it. Did you try the test that Frank had mentioned above? I think that you have an internal problem by reading this thread. I would get with Frank to get things straightened out. Give him a call today to talk over what is going on here. It will be much more effective than this thread I'm sure. Vince

Do you know what temps you were getting? Did you try to disconnect a line and see if fluid is squirting out when you start the car? Just some Ideas.

I dont think the pump is bad cause i would of lost all gears by now , i believe its good cause the car can still move. I am thinking maybe my tune is jacked up and the car is goin into "LIMP" mode. I am goin to put a factory 4l60e tune on the car from a 99 trans am and see if that helps. will keep yall posted. Fluid moves throught the lines still. and spacing is about right according to the post.

I think if the trans overheats for a period of time, a 079 code will be thrown. am I wrong?

UPDATE:
installed a tune that i know works 100% its the factory 4l60e tune from a 99 trans am. car just idles, i can put into any gear, stays neutral. if i put in park it holds. i removed the vss sensor from the back of the tail shaft. I had reverse when i cranked it back up for a total of 10 secs. then i lost it again. had no foward gears. rehooked the vss sensor up and all i have is neutral. I am so lost. whats next, take to a shop and have them verify the tranny?

Yes get someone to verify what they think, I have to say with the flex plate issue and noise and then these strange symptoms, And I said it before it does seem like its has to be a trans issue but at the same time its very strange in the overall history. Keep me posted on what they say and then contact me and we will go from there.
