Default 4l60/4l80 Tranny Temp Sensor Locations?

I am installing a 4l80e and ordering cooling line fittings and want some input.
I think most recommend in the pan?
Where did everyone mount there tranny temp sensors?

Pan? In line with the cooling lines? Can you use an output from your computer?
I will have hp tuners so I can probably read it from there occassionally.

Mines inline with the cooling lines. Cut the rubber line in half up by the cooler and installed an earls fitting that had a spot in the center to screw the sending unit in. The temps dont read as hot as it would inside the trans but if it starts going way hot up by the cooler I know I have a problem.

I used the feed line to the cooler since I wanted to see the absolute hottest temps my tranny ever saw. The fluid inside the tranny is cooler than the fluid coming out of the converter via the cooler feed line. My gauge averages 100-150 cruising and 150-180 in traffic. Most will recommend the pan for average temps. Either should work just fine.

Here's some good info.....Gilbert at ACE chimed in with some expertise. Basically, use the pan for average temps, use the cooler line for max temps.

What cooler you guys buy? You think a cheaper flex a lite cooler would work or you guys strictly b&m?

Whatd you guys use for gauges, imlooking at an autometer electrical gauge that has a sender without threading...I was hoping to have a temp sender with threads so i could put it in line with my braided hose...
Any suggestions?

Im using the autometer phantom 2 1/16th elcrtical trans temp. Mine came with a threaded sending unit. Got a local speed shop you could go to and look at them?

Yes, I run rubber Goodyear hose and fuel injector style clamps. Just to throw it out there, we've seen as much as 27* difference between what the PCM read and what my gauge read. The PCM read cooler.

It's been stated many times that the pressure port location is not accurate. That's what I've always read and is the reason I did not use that location. The pan would be more accurate for average temps and the cooler line for max temps IMO.

My autometer nitrous gauge came with the 1/8 inch sender and a blue npt npt fitting for the nos to flow through and the 1/8 to T into that.
Do the temps come with that blue fitting as well so you can mount it in line at the cooler location?

This is what I have. My only problem was the sender was a little to long to fit so I called autometer and they sent me a short one. Even on the short one I had to grind it down a tad on the end

Im sure the pressure port and the pcm would get me close enough to let me know if there is a problem or not. Im just sayin how do we know the gauge is 100 percent accurate and the pcm is not. Im not trying to be smart here im just curious?
