Default So I need a 4L80E and I have some questions?

What will it hold? Can I spray through shifts? I'm only putting out 550rwhp now but when the motor blows I will be building something crazy. I want a trans I can throw anything at. I would also like a trans brake. So who has what I need?

Well you cannot throw "anything" at a 4L80E. But it can take a serious amount of Horsepower, over 1k h/p is not unheard of.

Please define your idea of "Something Crazy". My idea of something crazy and your idea may be two different things.

We can build any tranny for the job. Glide, TH400, TH350, 4L80E, 4L60E ... we gotcher back!

No worries. But, I need to know just what it is that your long term goals are. What if you cannot blow up the current engine? Seen it happen before believe it or not!

It sounds to me like you suffered a tranny failure today or recently. Let's define the current situation and your goals in order that we might get the best tranny for the job to you. A 4L80E will handle your car as it is easily, spray all you like.

Just know that each transmission has it's Pros and Cons.

I really dont know what the long term goals are for the car. Its a street and track car. I'll probally procharge it sometime. I'd say I need a trans to hold around 850 rwhp. So what do you think I would need?

You mean a built one.

What's the limit on stock 4L80E? Also, how strong can you take a built 4L60E?

A well built 4L80E would not struggle too hard at 850 H/P. I would not be afraid to show a stock 4L80E 700 - 750 H/P. Anymore and I would want to see some upgraded soft parts and hydraulics.

As far as the 60E.... that really is a bit of a loaded question as the whole idea of taking it to high H/P levels is relative to ones expectation levels. It can be built to run well into the 9.xx's successfully. But at that level there will be some maintenance involved. I would not be afraid to show a 4L60E 650 - 700 H/P... but that is a high end unit with significant upgrades to the hard parts.

Is 4L65E stock or built any better than 4L60E? Are they interchangable?

Essentially they are interchangeable. Depends on the original application of each unit. Structually they are a bit different and that's what makes the 54E more desireable sometimes.

The 65E will ordinarilly have hardened shafts from the factory, will have 5 pin planets a rollerized shell and so on.
