using transbreak to back up?
Hey guys, i bought a th350 from a guy on here and you have to press and hold the trans break down to get it to back up. I was told some trannys are made this way but ive never seen one like this. Anyway the tranny failed after 5 passes with fluid pouring out of it and it made a loud squealing noise. Is this the reason why it failed and have you guys ever seen one set up like that? thanks

It is normal for you to have to engage the Brake if it is equipped with a Pro Brake. Which is very common.
I doubt very seriously it is the cause of the unit's failure.
I work with guys all the time in the same boat you are in.
Give me a call and we can explore some options for you!

Im not sure what failed. I start out my burnout in first and shift to second and then roll out. It came out after the 5th pass coming up the return road. We were hot lapping the car a little bit so i wonder if it got hot but it only made 5 passes in like and hour anda half. Anyway it made a loud squealing sound and the car cut off. I looked under the car and the tranny blanket was soaked with fluid. When i started the car back up it was still squealing so i cut it back off. I sent the stall back to ATI just to get it checked out. Any ideas what it could be??

Hot lapping with a brake is a very bad idea. On our transmission dyno I can run a trans and get it up to temp. 140-160*. Depending on how long you are on the brake, you can literally see the needle on our temp gauge climb like a second hand on a clock. I would recommend getting a temp gauge and do not let that trans go over 225-250*. 250 is probably pushing it. When you go to make a pass make sure the temps are around150-175* to be safe. Also if the stall of your converter is high, in combination with the brake, heat is being generated very quickly. Vince
