Default Stock 4L80e converter with twin turbos....what!!

I know this sounds like a dumbass question to alot of you but Im installing a built 4L80e and I want a VERY tight converter for this setup. Im a street guy and only go to the track a couple time a year just for fun. So is a stock 4L80e converter strong enough for 600-650rwhp? if not, whats a very tight converter you would recomend for me on the street?? Ill be running 3.08 or 3.23s and the cam is a GT-7 207/230 on a 121 LSa

thanks

I would shy away from stockstall speed, period. The stock 4L80e converter won't bolt up anyway. It has to be one made specifically to mate the lsx to the 80e. You are going to kill the performance of that setup for no reason. If it has to be really tight, look at 2800-3000 and within a week you won't even know its there. If you haven't driven a stalled auto, try to before you commit to stock stall speed.

i ran the stock converter all year last year with close to 600whp, and had no problems. It does suck big time though, i hated getting beat by stock hondas out of the hole. Now i got a fuddle 3200, i will have it on the road shortly

BUT, just to get it going put it in, you can always change it later

Buy a yank or your going to have to buy a crank spacer.

Yank has some tight converters designed for FI. 2800 - 3400 stall depending upon your boost curve will be enough.

30th t/a, I am running a 2800 Vig built for a turbo application in my 72 Bu with twins. I am running a 3.42 gear and a copy of the TR Cheatr cam, 214/230 117 LSA. I am running Borg 256 turbos on a mostly stock LQ4. The converter is perfect for my application and if I went any tighter it would be too tight, (is there really such a thing as too tight)? You need to look at the entire combination before picking a converter. I would suggest talking to PI ,Yank etc before using the stock unit.

Trans2000am, If you are using a 6.0 with the correct bolt pattern flywheel and spacer for the 80 the stock converter will bolt up. Keep in mind that when ordering a converter for an LS application you will more than likely get one for a car bolt pattern unless you specify otherwise. Ask me how I know this! The car/truck bolt patterns are different and when running a car spec converter you will need to change the flywheel to a car unit.

Cablebandit, did your converter foot stall at 2400 on the street or did it flash to 2400? My PI was built for a turbo application so it is a little looser right off of idle. Driving it around is perfect and if I mat it from a stop I flashes like a **** and things get really violent in a hurry! The 295/50's dont know what hit em!!!

My twin turbo big block truck has the V6 4L80E converter in it. Yep, thats right some US government trucks had 4.3's and 4L80E's in them. The converter shop I use sold it to me for 85 bucks. I have made a little over 850 to the wheels and have never hurt it yet 3 years later. They claim it's rated at 2,500 stall. It will foot brake 1,800 in the truck. You can see the truck unfinished at www.myspace.com/neokcterror .
