Default best performing auto gears?

so i was kinda wondering what the "1, 2, 3" gears did today because i know on trucks they're for towing. so i throw it in 2 and the whole car shifts and im like what the ****, but the throttle got real heavy and the thing was a damned torque beast, same with 3 but even more torque. but my question is, which setting is best and quickest? im guessing 3 but im not sure. also when i tryed a run in 3, i did with "transmission perform" button and without, and didnt see much of a difference. so with "3" should i still put on the button or not? just give me feedback, anything, i want to know what gear/combo of gear and trans perform button is the best and quickest.

Um, what?

1, 2, or 3 doesn't affect power or torque. It's just each gear, you can manually shift from 1-4 but it's not necessary at all. Leave it in '3' at the track and let it shift itself.

And as far as the car 'shifting' when you put it in '2', you're either lying or you threw it into 2 at 45 mph.

well yea but, if i go from "D" to "3" theres alot more torque, so your saying, "3" is the best setting for power right? thats what i needto know, and if i should also use "performance trans" button too or not.

There is more torque because your RPM's are jumping and putting you higher in the power band.

Go read up on the interweb about gear selection v. RPM v. power
