Default trouble with pan leaking 80e

changed the fluid in my dads truck
used an o realllys filter kit, installed it with the rubber gasket(slightly hammered the bolt holes) and the thing dripped about a drip every 15 seconds

i tightened the bolts 1/2 turn at a time and no help, got them so tight i thought the bolts would break so we stopped took it back apart the gasket looked fine

so hmm...we redid it with the original gasket(it was a reuseable one with a rubber o ring all the way through it and its about 1/8 inch plastic thick)
well installed it hammered the bolts again and it appeared fine till we filled with fluid and it was worse than the rubber gasket...so the area that was leaking i got an extention and hammered the pan between the bolts where i though it was leaking and it stopped. so i cleaned it drove it home sat over night dripped some so i cleaned again hammered a little more let it sit cleaned it and it wasnt leaking, started the truck let it get hot and it leaks about a drip a minute when hot?

how can i seal this thing? silicon the pan gasket? im afraid that wont work because you cant ever get all the tranny fluid off the gasket surface...it seems the pan isnt flat, maybe when we hammered the holes dont know but what do yall reccomend? lmk asap i need it fixed by monday so i need to get to work and make sure its not leaking

I don't know, man. Maybe try an aluminum pan. I figure you should get a better seal as well as increase fluid capacity.

The gasket that you used is the problem. You either need the molded rubber with steel core gasket, or a duraprene (paper) gasket.

I just read where you said the pan is f'd up. Get another pan, and re-use your original rubber/steel core gasket if it isn't damaged.

I hate to badmouth a product , but the rubber gaskets that come in the aftermarket kits are crap . Damage to the pan surface is usually the result .
If you are very careful you can straighten it out . Make sure you havn't damaged the seal on the factory gasket or it will never seal . If you can't get it straight the best bet would be another pan , either new or used and a new factory "permanant" gasket .

My 4L80 still has the original 1998 pan gasket, reused at least 10 times. It doesn't even weep oil.
I wish they had those for the 4L60E's.
