Default 1500 dollar tranny cost 3-4000 to rebuild!!!!

i just took my tranny to circle D .. there cool i got nothing against them im just having a hard time understanding the cost to rebuild (3500-4000) if i only paid 1500 for a new one and i could pay 1600 for one at finish line.
they said its all burnt up.

any body have anysuggestions i dont have 4000 just layin around i was hoping to hear somethin like 900 or 1000 to rebuild.

for 4000 i could buy another car

I had my 4L60E rebuilt with all the good parts for drag racing and it cost me $1,900 w/o converter. Better than a new one for sure.

maybe you should talk to the guys at circle D our level 3s are pretty close to that if they are building a tranny to hold some stupid power that is kinda the ballpark are you getting a converter to sounds about right if so....havt really looked at vince's site in a while but i think his level 5 is a little more than that but if vince has the better deal take it to him very reputable also.

500 hp and a $1000 rebuild will not last you very long.

Rick, we apologize if anything was misunderstood in our conversations. But looking to spend $1000 for a transmission to hold 500+HP including labor is very wishful thinking. You paid almost $2,000 for your current transmission and did the install yourself. Now, you’ve got a transmission that is burnt up and that company is out of business. You were quoted our Stage III transmission which is about $2600, add labor and a converter and you are at $3500 easily. You also have numerous electrical problems that we must address so the transmission works properly, and who knows how long that might take. We gave you an honest quote rather than a big surprise later. We have been building transmissions for over 33 years and always give a fair upfront estimate. If you want a 500HP transmission we would be glad to accommodate you, but we will not cut corners and hope that it doesn’t break.

same thinkg happend to me. It was about the same price for a rebuild from a trans shop as it was for a new built one. So I hit up performabuilt.

What you would be getting for the money is leaps and bounds above the so called new stock unit you had. Then add in a conversion set up and getting that dialed in. A conversion can be an electrical nightmare and end in rapid premature tranny failure if the install is not done properly. How long did the stock unit last? Just curious.

I'm a firm believer in getting it done right the first time. It'll save a lot of $$$ down the road.

Good luck!

Its pretty well known that as a Sponsor here on LS1Tech your expected to PUT UP OR SHUT UP. If one of our sponsors was building poor transmissions and overcharging they would be run out of town (some actually have but we wont go there)

You can be very confident in purchacing a transmission from Circle-D, Performabuilt, ACE or Finishline.

They all have proven their product time and time again.

I know a little OT, but do any of you guys work on 700R4's? I have one in my car (carb'd ... vehicle in my sig) and would like to stick with the same tranny. It's got a few leaks (seepage) so for now I have a tarp under it, and I check fluids every other pass, but at some point I'd like to get it rebuilt (within the next year). Just trying to limp it through until my next work term (when I'll have money again).

thanks!
