Default Question for the TH400 guys

I had to pull my tranny tonight..and the top bolt on the drivers side was pita. Do any of you guys just run 4 bolts and not put the top one in? Its such a pain to get to on my car..would it be an unwise decision to not put that bolt in? Thanks.

yea thats correct. The top one on the left is the one i always have issues with. So instead of me using 5 bolts..id be using 4. 2 on each side.

I hate that bolt! I cut a hole in the floor board there and made a panel to cover it. I take that bolt out from inside the car...

thats actually not a bad idea. Drill a hole just big enough to slide an extension with socket and bingo. Its not like there are not other holes in that general area.

Its a pain to get to but I didn't think it was that bad at all. I had the trans in and out 3 times and once you catch on with about 2 feet of extensions and a swivel its not bad to get in and out. I think I used 1 12" wobble extension, 2 more different legnths extensions and a swivel with a socket on the end of the swivel. Ratchet ended up next to the trans mount.

No i agree..once you get on the bolt..it works. Its the getting ON the bolt and seeing it for me. I had everything off for the trans to be dropped within like 30mins..it took me anothe 20-30mins to get the 2ft of exetension i had manuevered around...id much rather bypass doing that again. I think im gonna look into cutting a panel like ryan k said. Sounds like its a simply, effecient way to get to that damn bolt!

i have a bunch of wire harness's running along side the trans to..so i dont have as much room as you probably do. I wouldnt pull up the carpet..id an X where my panel would be and just fold it back while im taking the bolt out. Taking the console out is 2-4 bolts that are EASY to get to...no big deal.

The bolt pissed me off to start with, so i decided to drill the hole. It wasn't right the first couple times so I made sure I made enough room the last time. Like I said I cleaned it up before I put the trans back in.

The only I drilled the hole is because I've got solid mounts and I almost rounded off the head of it trying to get it out.
