Default ZL1 HP figure leaked "North of 570hp"

*** EDIT*** I'll just leave this here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYDtt...layer_embedded

"The most advanced, highest performance Camaro ever.

To confirm the track readiness of the most powerful production Camaro ever, the 2012 Chevy Camaro ZL1, performance engineers recently conducted a 24-hour extreme track test on the grueling Milford Road Course located on GM's Proving Grounds in Milford, Michigan.

The 2012 Camaro ZL1 offers Performance Traction Management (PTM) as standard equipment, which is exclusive to General Motors. It was initially introduced on the Corvette ZR1.

Novice drivers will find the ZL1 very enjoyable to drive, while expert drivers will find PTM supplements their driving skill without interfering with their intentions."

Rumor: Official 2012 Camaro ZL1 HP Numbers Easily Exceed CTS-V

by Paul Huizenga on July 11, 2011

Ever since the pre-production ZL1 Camaro was revealed, speculation has run rampant as to the final numbers for horsepower and torque for this monster Chevy. With an engine based on the Cadillac CTS-V’s supercharged LSA powerplant, the odds strongly favored advertised output in the same ballpark as the Caddy’s 556 ponies and 551 pound-feet. However, we’ve also heard rumors that GM intentionally turned down the wick on the LSA as utilized in the CTS-V to keep it from overshadowing the Corvette ZR1′s LS9, which is rated at 638 horsepower and 604 pound-feet.

While the LSA makes do with a smaller 1.9 liter supercharger (compared to the LS9′s 2.3 liter unit) and a 9.0:1 compression ratio instead of 9.1:1, the higher hoodline on the CTS-V (and presumably the ZL1 as well) allows for a taller intercooler/intake manifold package, and more design freedom to optimize flow. The CTS-V’s LSA puts it in a class of its own among luxury performance cars, but the ZL1 will have to fight it out directly against Ford’s next Shelby GT500, which is rumored to have a 650 horsepower turbocharged powerplant.

But enough teasing – We have just heard an unconfirmed but extremely credible rumor that the just-completed SAE testing for the ZL1′s powerplant puts the number “North of 570 horsepower,” and that an official figure is imminent. Stay tuned as we beat the bushes for confirmation and the actual results…

Unfortunately no, but i suspect a steady stream of "leaks" will soon start. They need to spike interest before the release to boost sales.

I think it'll do pretty well also...considering it'll have less weigh and maybe a power bump over the V.

I HOPE GM has done something to at least try to keep the weight down but im pretty sure this car will be over 4,000lbs easily.

That's cool, I didn't think they'd get the power much higher than the CTS-V. Wonder if that means the Caddy is also gonna get a power bump? I'm curious as to what size pulley is on camaro version of the LSA and if the power bump was done with tuning more than anything else.

I would expect the CTS-V to receive the same power bump when the ZL1 arrives.

well considering the ZL1 is getting electric steering, that could account for a few extra usable ponies plus a less restrictive exhaust(dual-mode exhaust option). sounds like a beastly pig to me. call it the chupacabra

No matter what this body design is always gonna be a "Brick In The Wind".

IMHO - GM would have nailed the 5th-gen with a car that looked almost exactly like the Dick Harrell cars and a Transaxle. The 4th-gens look fast standing still. They have that aerodynamice "bullet" shape to their profile. Updated lighting and door sealing capabilites; Possibly combined with an Ai. chassis. Don't try and tell me, yeah but IRS/transaxle aren't the best for drag racing... WRONG. Take Mark Carlyle's Z06 for example of that.

Think about it! A Dick Harrell Camaro, possible Aluminum chassis, LS3, TR6060, Updated interior, TRANSAXLE... Woulda been perfect.

Also considering it's a complete waste to buy a new car, a used C5-C6 Z is a FARRRRR better choice.

It does look cool though!

has weight been announced? or are we going to guess? i think its going to be lighter than most think. a6 trans will also be an advantage. dont kid yourself this car is going to hang with a GT500. itll also have an improved rear suspension.

also hows gearing compared to a GT500?

Was that the 2010 or 2011? **** poor driving either way. My guess is the two will be close with the GT500 in front (3800lbs vs ~4000 for the Camaro, the SS is 3800 already). That's only if Ford doesn't up the power in the GT500, which they might with the way they have been doing things lately.

You know what, he said he's not 100% sure. Forget that I said confirmed. But this came from a GM employee who's name is requested to be confidential.

2nd, 3rd and 4th are the same. 5th and 6th are longer in the gt500 to avoid the gas guzzler tax.

I didn't say it wouldn't "hang" with one. It is not going to out perform it though. The GT500 DOES get the power bump next year. Although, since the 2012s just went on sale, I wouldn't look for anything solid form Ford untill late fall, probably when the hype for the ZL1 will be at fever pitch Also, look for somehting else to be included in this "pack" with the bigger blower

As for weight, the 2011 gt500 is already lighter than the SS. Do you really think they are going to add the blower assembly and fluid coolers and reduce the weight of the car in total??? That is probably 100lbs worth of stuff easy, let alone any other items on the car that will be changed.
