Investigation of Toyota electronics finished...
Interesting...

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- An intensive 10 month investigation into possible causes of unintended acceleration in Toyota cars found no fault with the automaker's electronic throttle control systems, the Department of Transportation announced Tuesday.
So far there are three known causes of unintended acceleration in Toyota vehicles: improperly installed floor mats, sticky pedals, and driver error.

And of course media of all forms didn't help. People didn't start their complaints until one or two big stories came out, and of course everything came to a halt one the official investigation was launched.

i feel like "sticky" gas pedals is still a big deal.... a new car should NOT have that issue. the affected pedals were also made by 1 company... this is why not every tundra etc was affected.. some vehicles had one manufacturer and some vehicles had the other. it was some outsourced company that made the pedals.

Am I the only one who ever looked at their floormats during all of this and realized two things?
1. Floormats actually extend at least 2-3 inches "behind" (closer to the firewall) than the gas pedal.
2. It would take 6 or 7 of said floormats, stacked up, to reach the bottom of the gas pedal.
So I believe if that was an actual cause then, technically, we can just say "sticky gas pedals" and lump floormats in with "we sell cars...er, appliances for morons"

they removed the styrofoam from behind the carpet in some vehicles, trimmed the carpet in some vehicles, zip tied the floor mats to the seat rails, shaved down the pedals, reprogrammed the computers and did a few other random "fixes" during the recall.. basically toyota had no idea what was actually causing the problem.
