Hmmm, of course if it accepts wireless commands from a PDA, then you realize it's hackabel. Imagine how much fun you could have with that.

That must be illegal for street use. You'd see flashing lights off in a distance and think it was an emergency vehicle.

A lot of engineering musta went into that...

Kudos for engineering it, but crap like that will be bought by the most tasteless of car customizers.

FYI, this technology was used as early as 2002 by the Toyota CART team. They had a Toyota logo projected from their wheels during races. The system design is pretty straightforward; the real issue is building electronics that can withstand the forces, vibrations, and heat generated on your average wheel.

Although the system can be made to flash, this is not the usual operation. The effect is much more like having a 'Lite Brite' hanging in front of your wheels. In other words, if neon alongside or under your car is legal, these might also be--especially if they avoid using colors like blue and red that might be confused with an emergency vehicle.

If these really bother you, I'd suggest getting some legislation drafted as soon as possible. But then you won't be surprised when you get pulled over because your exhaust is too loud. I say let the kids have their fun. The whole thing is really too amusing to discourage!

This is almost as bad as the spinners I saw on a car at my work. They had fabric sewn on them that was cheetah print. The wheels matched the cheetah fabric-covered interior.
