That's so true. If the Camaro is ever produced again, it'll be because of the mustang. That article is very insightful. A lot of points that make a lot of sense. Whoever wrote that could be considered the "Rush Limbaugh" of car news

Ford Mustang debuts in 1964 to critical acclaim, GM's "me too" Camaro arrives late in 1967. Ford redesigns Mustang and sales are red hot, GM will once again arrive late to the party, maybe.

History repeats itself.

Let's hope they're "fashionably" late.....rather than missing the boat.

Nice article.

The 05 Mustang reinforces my belief that fokls are buying it for looks over performance, but the performance crowd is quite happy with the base Mustang GT.

I think GM needs to provide a palette that makes the V8 crowd happy, but it does not need to make 300rwhp IMHO. We can make it faster.

GM needs to learn from Ford and make a strong selling V6 model to support the lines general sales and then offer higher performance versions on the same platform i.e. GT and SVT.

I'm really hoping with the success of the Mustang , it will help push GM to reconsider those great artist renditions of that retro Camaro we've seen. One thing you've got to consider is one of the largest buying segments is the folks in the middle age group. We grew up up around these cars and miss 'em. I could care less about another SUV or minivan being introduced , I want a car like the Camaro or Firebird to come out!

Most of the Mustangs Sucess is due to women buying the V6 model.

I agree with you there. That's one of the reasons the previous F-body "failed". GM never had a problem selling V8s, it was the base models that languished especially near the end. The base Mustang has always been a strong seller.

It is a good article but the writer is basically saying what we all have been saying for more than 3 years now.

The sad sad sad part is that GM has had deaf ears this whole time.

Good point, at my shop we see SO many V6 Mustangs,coups/convertables/etc. that we have nicknamed them "cheerleader specials" cause there are so many 17-22 year old girls driving them

This is a great point out of the dozens of new Mustangs I've seen only a handful were the GTs. I can't imagine GM ever bringing back the TA though . I'm not sure I'd want them to though because I think they would F it up big time

Another thing the average consumer saw in the mustang was the interior design. When I drove my friends old 98 V6 'stang, it sat a bit higher up that the F-body and didn't squeak nearly as much . The performance crowd could care less about squeaks and "high-rise" seating, but there's more average drivers than enthusiasts out there that have more of a "say" in what's being built, per say
