2007 Camaro - information and pictures
Just recieved info and some renderings of camaro redesign. Sounds like 2006 is possible unvieling and 2007 is the actual release, making it the 40th anniversary.
Heres what I got out of the R&T article:
GM is required to build the car in canada, possibly at the Oshawa assembly plant. Problem is only Front drive cars are being produced there. Thus, they are planning on developing a "Sigma-lite" platform based off of the caddy cts that would be a live rear axle version to underpin the camaro, impala, and monte carlo. They might just create a cost alternative to the Zeta platform though. Benefits to the monte carlo and impala being rear-drive would be that chevy could have a credible rear-drive sedan for police market and monte carlo could finally return to its reardrive heritage and become closer to its nascar version.
Engine choices so far are:
-3.9 ohv from chevy/pontiac-G6 for ex which would have ~240hp
-high feature 3.6 ohc (from cadillac/buick) ~240hp
-5.3L with roughly 300hp
-and of course 400hp LS2 for a possible SS model
GM said they were unsatisfied with the solstice launch since it spanned over 20months from concept to production so theyre looking to pace things much faster if they do a next gen camaro.
Well see

sorry for the delay my network locked me out. I was just sent the pics. Many noticable cues, but word is that GM isnt going for a fully retro look like the 05 mustang, something a bit more modern, but is also considering a look very reminiscent of its heritage due to the huge sales of the stang. The biggest thing is getting the toronto plant to churn out rear-drive cars. So newho hopefully we will indeed see a concept model soon. What do yall think?
btw the Zeta isnt dead its on hold, GM is looking for a cost-effective alternative to that platform.

Looks like they've got the right idea with those drawings. Tails/nose need a little bit of refining, but it looks spot on. I've said it before and I'll say it again- the body hump over the rear wheels is what MAKES a pony car. Its a defining characteristic, I think.

GM has to get out of its money problem before we are going to see any kind of affordable F-body replacement. This topic has been beat to death, until I see the ad from GM with fire coming out of the exhaust of a new F-body or its replacment and it is running over a mustang then I am saving for a used Vette.

i agree. Im planning on taking those renderings and smoothing them out to a "production" version as soon as I get my 3d sgi system back. The lights will likely NOT be hideaway. Also the exhaust tips will probly be less of a flush design with the bumper and not take the shape they do in that rendering. The bumpers will also likely incorporate a more "5mph"-friendly shape, possibly with relocation of foglights and a more pronounced guard running horizontal/parallel with the grille. The protruding hood/fenders that overhang the grille looks good as well, but it needs to be exaggerated more, notice it in comparison to the 1st gens (the forward sloping nose). Hopefully we can trust GM with a proper execution

I have close ties with a GM dealer here in the DFW area. This "Employee Pricing" is making a killing. People are paying more than had they come in and haggled the old price. He sold 350 Cadillacs, 260 Saabs, 290 GMC's and 490 Chevys LAST MONTH! GM's sales were up 41% last month. Their lot is Empty. People thought they went out of business, but it turns out business is TOO GOOD! I hope that helps the Money Problems, I want my 5th Generation now!

it seems pretty clear to me that no one actually has any information, only speculation, at this point. we've seen the same 5 or 6 pics for the last 2 years, and heard variances on the same information right along side them. If that information is correct, I don't think things will turn out as either we or GM hopes.

This is the same rumor mill crap we've been hearing for a while, and quiet frankly that "rendering" looks like a smoothed over SS concept that's been making the show circuit for what, 3~5 years now. Where's the "overrated" chant when you need it. It's dead, it's a non-issue, and ain't happening for right now. Maybe 2010, but not in 2007.

I'll believe it when I see it, but I don't think so. I'll put money on it that an 07 camaro WILL NOT happen. But don't be sad. Theres still a plethora of 4th gen f-bods around, and with all these new crate engines and short blocks, I'm happy.

I saw that article in Road and Track too. I hope the make it or bring out some new muscle because GM must be deing in sales since the new mustang came out. Well thats my 2 cents.

If it looks like that...I'll pass, as it really needs to look way more appealing. (That and I'm lining up an 01 Trans Am purchase, so you do the math).
