2006 Michigan State Police Test - Chrysler Hemis Highest Scoring Police Vehicles
Coming to a rearview mirror near you: It's got cop tires, cop suspension - and a Hemi V-8.
The Michigan State Police, one of the prime evaluators of police cars in the country, announced preliminary results of its 2006 model year Police Vehicle Evaluation Program, which includes a series of on-road tests that evaluate acceleration, top speed, braking and vehicle dynamics. The test results are viewed by police departments throughout the country before they order new vehicles for their fleets. The new Hemi-powered Dodge Charger and Magnum scored big, apparently.
The Charger recorded the a best-in-class top speed in the test of over 145 mph. The Dodge Charger Hemi and Dodge Magnum Hemi claimed first and second place in acceleration times (0 - 100 mph in 16.24 seconds and 16.49 seconds, respectively). And on the MSP's handling road course the Dodge Charger Hemi and Dodge Magnum Hemi finished in first and second place with average lap times of 1:37.96 and 1:38.26, respectively.
Dodge announced that the U.S. MSRP for the Dodge Charger police vehicle with the 5.7-liter Hemi is $28,805, and the MSRP for the 2006 Dodge Magnum police vehicle with the Hemi is $30,505. Both prices include a destination charge of $675.
The 2006 Dodge Charger and Magnum police vehicles began production in September 2005 at Chrysler Group's Brampton (Ontario) Assembly Plant. So that means you'll start seeing them around the country shortly, although we've been seeing them for months around here in the hands of the Auburn Hills police on "loan" from the Chrysler Group. www.autoextremist.com

I heard the FHP got some custom Mercury Maruders that were souped up to be fast. Anyone ever see one of those?
They had a little clip in Hot Rod earlier this year about them.
