Default Got my OBX headers today, first impression.....

Let me start out with my background so you can have an accurate description of these headers.

I have been welding for 10+ years, have built numerous exhaust systems, headers and a few turbo kits for mustangs and lsx f-bodies.

First impression of these headers are unbelievable compared to cost. The welds are extremely nice full welds, smooth bends even the exhaust ports by the heads have been blended and smooth. Very nice high polish, you can feel by weight these are not some thin cheap headers (even tho they are inexpensive).

For the ones considering these headers I would give it a A+ in quality. Pics don't do justice until you have them in your hands. No offense to kooks or any other brands but the quality and price speak for themselves.

I will be installing this weekend and will give an install report.

Just my .02 these are WELL worth the $$$.

Let us know how the install goes...
Actually... if you can highlight the area that needs some slight banging in, would be perfect... if that is needed at all, that is. (Primary tube against steering component)

Yeah, I am going to protect certain wiring around them but not going to wrap them. I've installed 4-5 sets of kooks on c6 vette's and have had zero issues when wrapping wires that were dang near touching the headers.

That should be a BEAST!

Next weekend I will be installing the V.3 cam. Maybe in the future I will do a single turbo, run low boost 4-5 psi. Already spec'd a location for the turbo... by by airbox.

So far they fit awesome! Good 3/8" between steering shaft and header. Pass side is about the same between the header and shock tower.

Just in the process of cutting my stock exhaust to fit the resonators.

Few things I learned. Drivers side header is a PITA to install. Had to jack drivers side motor up to slide into place. One in place, nice!

You do not need any exhaust wrap as factory harness already has heat shield in place. Good 1/2" to 2" of clearance on all wiring.

You do not need 02 extension's at all. They fit fine even with about 1" or so left.

So far I am VERY pleased with these.

I will post up a video and pics after I am done. This is all being done in my garage with hand tools.

+2

I wonder what the difference is between the OP's install and his? Variance in the headers or vehicle differences?

Check the other guys posts. He has had a problem with everything he installed. This pretty much just sold me on a set. How is the ground clearance with these?

Got mine in yesterday, but it's gonna be a while before I install them. I gotta make a decision on motor mounts which I'm having a little trouble with since all the options out there seemed to be flawed.

Do these have equal length primaries?

Also, disconnecting the steering shaft, installing the header, and reconnecting the steering with my Kooks took all of an extra 30 seconds. I'd rather do that than jack the motor up. I'm just sayin' ...

yeah well i didnt want to go that route and say that. its possible that some headers could be newer production then others and normally as obx makes parts their stuff gets better and better thats why i wondered where he got his.

but i am sold on these also.

Lifting the motor is actually very simple. Remove lower engine mount bolt and jack away.

Prob about the same amount of time.
